I had meant to post an entry about Gary Card earlier, but somehow, I wrote the heading and went totally off tangent. It's only when I browsed through my pictures that I noticed these unposted pictures.
Hailed as the Andy Warhol of our time, this London-based designer has a penchant for all things whimsical. Recently, his home was featured in The Selby. And judging from the pure, unadulterated explosion of quirky figurines and irridescent hues stacked in overcrowded nooks and crannies, it's not surprising that his muse lies close to home.
This is going to be soooo picture-heavy. So it's either you like it or you don't. If you do, stay, if you don't I'm not stopping you from leavin' the page either.
A brief overview...
Okay. This appears to be his workstation. It's surrounded by pillars made up of purple (what looks like papier mache) giraffes and candy-coloured tubes. If I was surrounded by so much love all day, I'd be equally inspired!
Truly, truly. Gary's pillars of magazines and books reminds me so much of myself. This uncontrolled growing heap of all things pretty, mostly in the form of art books and periodicals. I hate to admit this, but I've always harboured a secret fantasy to have a place as haphazardly jammed-packed at his apartment. A place where coffee tables and display stands are in fact stacks of magazines artfully stacked one upon another. Which probably explains why I've been holding onto Vogue issues as far back as 2003.
It's also lovely to be surrounded by so many little friends. As a beginning plastic animal collector, I must say that it evokes unique feelings of nostalgia whenever I see such figurines around. Nostalgia is the very powerful feeling of being connected to a pleasent past. But far from the tube kind parents these days are no longer fond of purchasing for their little tots, I pander to the slightly avant garde or old world type. Which I think is the main reason why Gary Card's room appeals so much to me.
His little friends!
Storage has always been my bane, mostly because I have so much stuff. But looking at some of Gary's really cool storage ideas gives me hope that I too can create a form of organised chaos. If you look at it in its entirety, his apartment is actually pretty small. So it's good to know that there are many ways around space constraint.
Something practical (somewhat) this way comes.
I've always loved to draw. Unfortunately, due to the lack of practise, I'm not as good as I used to be. However, knowing that some insanely fabulous pictures on the wall can have quite the effect is tremendously inspiring. Not that I'm gonna pick up the pen anytime soon, but it certainly is food for thought when things start to settle after peak period at work, and I have ample time to work on my own projects.
Closets are close to my heart. It is, sometimes, the foci of my universe. So it's always thrilling when I peer into other people's closet to see what they've got. This time round, the colours and crazy prints are making my heart do the pitter patter. What can I say? It's time to step out of the closet!
Ah.... just in time.
Makes me wanna take a cat nap!
Well, this took forever. Pictures then to do that. But I'm just saying, how awesome Gary Card's place is. When I grow up, I' gonna have a house just like his!
Tee Hee,
