63 Days to NYC: On Thrifting

Sep 23, 2009 22:35

Super duper busy at work. It's peak period again. Three more weeks and all the drama will be over. Meanwhile, everytime I get bogged down with work, the shopping monster will come alive. Weekdays I work myself to the bone. Come weekends, it's partay time! I've decided to suss out a few thrift stores this weekend. Especially since I mangaged to get those gorgeous coats. I think Kang would be more than glad to keep me company.

On Thrifting

You know, this whole thrifting business is kinda new to me. Especially since I've been indulging a little too much money on clothes, shoes and accessories. But this recent fling with all things old and vintagey, has made me realise that I can save a lot! My flea market finds over the weekend past only cost me about $60-$70 for 6 pieces of clothing and three badges. That's a real steal really.

The other hotspot is the Salvation Army. I must admit that at first glance, it isn't always all that appealing. The overwhelming smell of thrift store/old clothes and books is usually enough to turn most people off. But the fun is always in the digging around and unearthing treasures you least expect. Especially if you have a penchant for the 80s, thrift stores are full of gaudy bridesmaids dresses and coats that you can always rework to suit this day and age.

Why am I rambling on? Because I'm going thrifting with some friends tomorrow. I'll let you know if I unearth any treasures.

TTFN,

J
