[a couple days or so has passed since everything returned to normal, and despite a few harsh words he had for the scientists, his mood has actually been pretty positive. how could he not be happy when everybody's lived? he's sat down with random groups of people--often pulling up a chair and jumping into the middle of an interesting conversation ( Read more... )

So, what's this about a proper holiday, Spaceman? I know you're keen on the whole saving the world thing but we've been doing that for months now.

[scratches his chin] Well yes, we have, all things considered. But I think we should take advantage of the facilities here while we can. It's no Midnight, but...[he trails off. if she's noticing, a small hint of sadness slips into his voice right then]...that doesn't mean we can't kick off our shoes and let our hair down.

[she did notice, but she'll ask him about that when she sees him in person properly.]

Well, come on then, what's first?

[makes a face as he thinks, then he smiles having come to a decision] I want to show you something. Can you meet me on Level 23 in about, ohhh, ten minutes or so?

[smiles!] Honestly, did you think I was gonna say no?

[awkwardly] Erm, well, no but... Just meet me there.

[and he turns off the Sphere and hops on the nearest transportation pad in hopes of beating her there.]

[he does manage to beat her there - just. she heads off in that direction herself and waves when she gets to the corridor and sees him there.]

So what were you gonna show me this time?

[luckily, he just so happens to catch a flash of ginger hair out of the corner of his eye and he looks over and waves at her from the console outside the holo-suite.] Well, it's a place few humans have ever seen. [continues to enter very specific details about, well, everything he can without breaking the simulator.]

Oh right, we're going for the vague alien thing again, are we? [she sounds amused, but also really curious. Just what is the Doctor up to now?]

[he throws her a bit of a look for that remark, then continues to enter everything he needs until--] Ah ha! There we are. And look, it didn't blow up!

[turns to her with a grin, reaching for her hand.] Donna, I can never show this to anybody else, not now. But this ship... I can at least show my best mate. Now close your eyes.

[She gives him a curious look, almost hesitant. Why can't he show it to anyone else? But she closes her eyes nonetheless.]

Alright then. Surprise me.

[when he steps into the simulation, a soft breeze brushes against his skin, the familiar scents of home clinging to the wind. in the distance, he both saw and heard the red grass and silver-leaves rustling. the sight of those cadenwood trees takes his breath away momentarily--and then he spots the Citadel. his grip on her hands tightens when he sees it in the distance, nestled between the mountains of Solace and Solitude, and the twins suns high in the sky.

he tries to keep the emotion out of his voice when he finally speaks] Go on. You can look.

[She opens her eyes - and gasps. Everything looks so beautiful, so detailed, so - "alien", her mind supplies, and she mentally shushes it because of course it's alien. For a moment she's sure that she can't be standing inside a simulation, that it has to be real.]

Oh my - Doctor, it's beautiful!

[Her voice is awestruck as she turns, taking in the view - but after a few moments she remembers that he said he couldn't show this to anyone else. So... does that mean...?]

Is this... [She sounds quiet, a little unsure, still not sure how to broach the topic; if it had been Earth that was just gone...] Is this home?

[it pleases him to hear what she thinks of Gallifrey, or what was Gallifrey before the Time War began. at her question, he glances at her and nods, his voice soft] It is.
