So, Gojyo is pretty important to Ritsuka at this point! We joke about Hakkai and Gojyo being his mom and dad in memes and on AIM and such, but in a way, it's kind of true! In fact, it's more true by the fact that Ritsuka would never consider anyone else a “brother” because of his closeness with Seimei and how attached he is to him - in a way, dubbing someone an “older brother” is sort of a sleight to his own brother, which he definitely does not want to do. There's that sense of family, but it's not brothers - and Gojyo has always been rather mother hennish towards him, even though that's Hakkai's MO. Additionally, in canon, his dad is pretty non-existent in his life! There are no qualms with equating him with dad stature because he honestly just... gives little to no thought about his actual dad. He exists - that's basically the extent of Ritsuka's thinking concerning his dad. That being said, he'd be pretty hard-pressed to admit that he looks at Gojyo in that sort of light, and he'd definitely never call him that because the feeling isn't that strong - it's a parental feeling, but it'd be weird to ever act like it's true. In the long run, he considers Gojyo to be a friend, but looks up to him in a way that a son might look up to his dad - though he recognizes that Gojyo is shitty and smokes and drinks and is sort of a perv.
SO! Despite those aspects, which normally Ritsuka tends to look down on, he really likes Gojyo! He finds himself talking about personal things, like his brother and his mother, with Gojyo more than with other people. It's a subconscious thing kinda, like he feels a sort of kindred spirit in Gojyo, and like he feels Gojyo might understand - even though he has absolutely no reason to! I think right now he thinks that's because Gojyo treats him like Genkaku did - he talks to him like he's a person and not just some dumb kid, and actually listens to what he says. It's just easier to communicate with him than most! He doesn't have a clue it's because Gojyo relates so heavily to what he's saying. And now with Genkaku gone (along with a side heaping of Badou), who was basically his confidant, he doesn't really have anyone to talk to the various aspects of his life that he generally keeps under wraps. Some people know pieces, but Genkaku had a large chunk of the story, so now he doesn't really have anyone to talk to about the weirdness that is the loveless universe. And now he's considering talking to Gojyo about some of those things, because he's built up a sort of trust in him! He's still worried, though, about how Gojyo might react to some of the things in his life - such as the “sacrifice” bit and the various abuse - also the fact that Ritsuka has a pretty bad view of himself (he's always making him be positive!!). Genkaku never bat an eye because Genkaku was - well, Genkaku and that's how he rolled, but Ritsuka doesn't feel like Gojyo is that kind of person (if anything, he gets more of that vibe from Hakkai!). But then he reminds himself that he is a horrible judge of character, which just leads to more thinking on the matter. He's pretty oblivious to the fact that Gojyo has an inkling as to what he's been through. OOPS.
