Some thoughts

So I haven't been on much, well posted much because life is crazy as I am sure you all know too well. Regardless, several people in my life have been having a very hard time of it lately, whether its personal concerns, kid worries, school worries, work related issues, etc. Whatever the reason the past few months have not been treating my family nor my friends tremendously well.

So I can't fix all the problems, no matter how much I want to but I can offer a suggestion. This is something I thought of while working the hotline one night.

Make a list of things you like to do....

Do you like
running
reading
playing games (computer, board, etc)
watching tv
watching movies
talking with friends
going out
staying in
etc

Now make a list of things that make you feel safe
A stuffed animal,
Blanket
Sweater
etc

Finally make a list of people you can call/visit/contact when you are down, or having problems
Family
Friends
Neighbor
Me

Now take those lists pick a few things off each that you really love...and get a basket/box/bin whatever
Put those items in your bin....So say you have a favorite cd, book, and movie...put each one in your bin...then if you have a favorite stuffed animal you don't sleep with everynight put them in. Finally place your list in your bin as well. Put this somewhere that is easily accessible and you can see it.

Now whenever you are down you have a "feel better" bin, and you don't have to try to come up with or think of things to do..you can just grab something or many things out of your bin.

Also, a few of you have confided in me thoughts about hurting yourself. I want all of you to know that I don't want to see you hurt in any way I care very much for you. At work, in our last discussion these ideas were tossed around as a safer alternative to cutting, if you can not do anything else to stop the urge. That being said if any of you feel the need to hurt yourselves give me a call...or call someone and talk...it really can help. Anyways...here are some things people came up with that I hope might help some of you out.

• Try and tear up a thick cardboard box
• Crunch up soft drinks cans
• Go to the gym and hit a punching bag
• Use a pillow or cushion and bash it against a wall
• Rip up as many pages of an old newspaper as you can in one go
• Go for a walk and break up any sticks you find along the way
• Do some exercise/go for a walk
• Try listening to loud/ angry music, dance/ sing along
• Take some ice into your hands and squeeze it hard
• Bite into something like a lemon or a hot pepper.

Anyways, they are just thoughts and I'm not trying to sound preachy at all I'm just worried about you all and want you to know that I am here for you..even if I don't post on LJ all too often right now.
