Life of Pi - Yann Martel

Despite attending a nominally Christian school, I had not yet been inside a church - and I wasn't about to dare the deed now. I knew very little about the religion.

Things didn't turn out the way they were supposed to, but what can you do? You must take life the way it comes at you and make the best of it.

And I survived because I made a point of forgetting. My story started on a calendar day - July 2nd, 1977 - and ended on a calendar day - February 14th, 1978 - but in between there was no calendar. I did not count they days of the weeks or the months. Time is an illusion that only makes us pant. I survived because I forgot even the very notion of time.

Despair was a heavy blackness that let no light in or out. It was a hell beyond expression.
