This is the Hualien portion of my Taiwan trip which I'd like to put in a separate post.

We took the afternoon train from Taipei to Hualien which took about 2 hours and a little more.We could have departed in the morning if not for our reservation with 海灣32號 (Hai Wan Haiwan 32) in which checking-in time was 3pm. So, we arrived at Hualien pretty late ( Read more... )

Hi there, we booked ourselves the cheapest room available so it is rather small; but not so small that you can't fit suitcases when all are opened! With a little more, you get a more spacious room with window and those rooms are lovely! The place is definitely clean. If I remember correctly, we had to changed into their slippers before heading upstairs to the room. Location wise, I don't think it is in the middle of everything but it is in a nice and quiet neighbourhood, less than 10 min walk to a night market (the one we went to). The place is probably 20 min walk max. to the main street where everything is. A taxi ride to most places in Hualien from the minsu is NT$100 (if you book with the minsu's preferred taxi company. They are super nice guys!)

Hi!

I chanced upon your blog while looking for things to do in Hualien! And im really interested in all the food that you have posted about. Do you happen to have their addresses or will Rachel recommend all these places to us if we stay there? (ive booked a 3nights stay with them in Hualien, and im kinda afraid that there arent enough things in hualien to do!)

I really can't remember the shops and where exactly they are but ask Rachel! They are all recommended by her! She will show you a map and circle the locations all for you. If you don't mind walking, all are walkable. :) 3 nights is more than enough, I say.

Hi. Saw yr post on Hualien & HaiWan32.
I'm visiting Hualien in May. If I stay in
HW32, is it convenient to do sightseeing?
I noticed you moved from HW to minsu,
in yr opinion, which is a better location?
Appreciate yr comments. Thanks.

It's about 15 min drive from Hualien city. If your sightseeing refers to Taroko Gorge, I don't think it's a problem from HW32 (you'll need to book a car/ taxi anyway.) If you want to be in the city where the night markets and food are, the minsu is a better choice, or just anywhere within the city. HW32 is not within the city boundary :)

Hi.. I chanced up upon your blog when looking for hualian details. And its interesting on what you have post. Thanks for the upload. I would like to check with u, is there any public transportation in hualian? Or must it be only taxi? What about self drive? Also, is 3d2n stay enough in hualian to explore?

Hi, thanks for popping by. Within Hualien city, you can easily walk to everywhere. It is very small. If you think walking is not your cup of tea, you can take a bus. I remember walking all the time when I was in Hualien. I am not sure about self-driving but I heard cycling is a good way to get around Taiwan.

When I stayed at HW32, I had to take a taxi there because it is about 15 minutes out of the city centre.

3d2n is good enough for a day in Taroko Gorge and hang around Hualien during your free time. If you want to spend more days exploring Taroko, consider staying one more day. You'll need to join a tour or book a car to get to Taroko Gorge, it's a huge place.

Hi Evelyn,

Thank you for posting such a detailed account of your stay in HW32. I'm keen to stay there on my trip in Dec 2015. I just wanted to ask if you have an email or contact number of HW32, as their website is down. Are the staff able to communicate in English? Thank you :)
