London, Homecoming

Sep 22, 2009 17:10

So, my time in London was spend cruising the Thames, having a proper good meal at Veeraswamy and of course, "volunteering" at Singapore Day.

And, yea, visiting and revising places.

I went back to Q, spent 2 days in the bookshop, doing some work and catching up. Finding excuses to stay longer. Bought gifts for the ex-colleagues and see how Mag wore hers.

We walked a lot. Walked from Westminster to the National Gallery to have my usual "date" with Holbein's The Ambassadors. Had wanted to show colleagues Da Vinc's Madonna of the Rocks but alas, it was under conservation and won't be exhibited until a year later.

A war monument near Charing Cross, strangely poignant.

I just love Charing Cross' underground platform. I'm a Tudor history buff!

A very strange arrangement.

Familiar activities at Covent Garden.

Not forgetting our very cool visit to Portobello Market. Ironically, the REAL side of the market which I've never been to. And I bought this!

Oh yes! One more thing we did, if not in Paris, then must be in London.

Au revoir!

Useful info
- Jesmond Dene Hotel at King's Cross serves wonderful breakfast and has a large, clean shared bathroom at the basement. Triple room we booked are the usual small cabin size as other London B&Bs. Excellent location, just 5 minutes from King's Cross station.
- Mandalay Picton House Hotel, conveniently located 5 minutes away from Paddington Station and walking distance from Hyde Park. Extremely hospitable owners, always free to chat with you. Rooms are roomier but toilets are cabin size.
