Open Mike Field Trips

So my band has been looking into playing some open mikes to get our feet wet.

Last Wednesday we went to check out 3 (of course we only meant to check out 1).

1. The Lazy Dog in Marlboro - Walk in, about 15 people there, one person on stage, oops it's an acoustic open mike...we leave.

2. The Lucky Dog in Worcester - The door is locked. Turns out it was supposed to be a comedy night, but none of the comics showed up.

3. The Sit'n Bull Pub Maynard - We walk in, it's promising there is a stage and large speakers. Again, it's an acoustic open mike. The people at this thing are on the disconnected and slightly crazy side. We have a beer, talk to the sound guy, he tells us that we could probably play a Thursday night there because it wouldn't be worth our time to bring all of our equipment for 2 songs (yeah we thought that too).

Basically, not the night we had planned.

So last night we do the same deal, but we start at the Lucky Dog. I spoke with the Owner early in the day and found out only one band had signed up to play. We decide to go and check them out, see what equipment we'd need to bring. As we are pulling up to the door Dom turns and says "Watch, we walk in and the ask if we're the band"...so we walk in the door to an amazing crowd of 4 people watching Law and Order SVU and you know what they said.

We hung out for a beer, talked with the owner a bit, and he offers us a Thursday night, which we don't have enough material for a whole night yet. Oh well, maybe next year.
