Hello from Olde Londone Towne.
I'm writing this from Cameron's place in the west of London. I've 'borrowed' a wireless net connection from a neighbour. We've been borrowing quite a few wireless connections in our travel. Hopefully Interpol arent onto me.
Last night we had a bit of a big night up the road at a pub whose name I've forgotten. There's so many Aussies here. In fact, there's a shop just around the corner called 'A Taste of Home' which is just full of Aussie chips and lollies and cereals and stuff. All hideously expensive of course, but then everything here is. The trick is not to convert to AUD in your mind. It's just scary.
Our search for a flat hasnt been going too well. We've been shown around to a few absolute rat holes, and I think we'll abandon the idea of living by ourselves. We thought 200 pounds ($500) a week might get us a decent one bedroom place, WRONG. We went around to one yesterday in Clapham which was described as 'ex council'. I think that was the only flat in the block that was ex-council, it was such a dodgy part of town. Imagine the council flats you see on The Bill where the drug dealers etc. live, it was worse than that. There are so many council flats in the UK, it's weird. The buildings are invariably ugly and a blight on any city that you build them in, so I'm left a little bit confused about why they build them. Surely creating these vertical ghettos isnt the answer. I think the answer to our personal housing shortage will be to share with Will and Heidi when they get here. With four of us hopefully we'll be able to find a pretty nice place.
Anyway, after having a bit of a look around Clapham (which itself is quite nice), we headed into the city to have a look around. We got off at London Bridge station and wandered over the Thames and looked at the Tower Bridge etc. which was quite impressive. We then sort of wandered into the CBD type area where it struck me that the CBD areas of every big city the world over look pretty much the same. We could have been in Sydney, or Chicago, or anywhere.
Anyway, that's it for now. I'll let you know when things start looking up a bit :)
