Vegas

So we're in Vegas, and I've already blown my life savings, $20. I had a shot at the roulette, as well as a few of the pokies which here are called Slots. I like them better than the pokies at home though cos they have the big handle on the side. There's something much more tactile about pulling a giant lever than pressing a button.

Today we wandered down the strip and checked out the Bellagio and the Venitian. Both are kind of Italian themed, but the Bellagio pulls it off with a lot more style. At the Venitian, they have actually recreated the grand canal in Venice, complete with singing gondoliers. It all seems a bit tacky though. Despite the faux canal being lined with shops like Hermes, Dior, etc, both of which we visited, and neither of which made us feel particularly welcome. The Bellagio on the other hand doesnt attempt to be anything in particular, just generally upper class and pretentious. They have a sweet fountain show though, accompanied by opera and classical music. It is actually quite impressive. Unforunately I didnt manage to get a good shot of the fountains so you'll just have to take my word for it.

We are staying at the Stratosphere, which is down the far end of the Strip. It boasts the tallest observation deck in the US or something. At 108 stories, it's pretty freakin tall. It also has a rollercoaster and several other rides, at the top of the tower. Ie. 108 stories up. I havent had a ride on it yet, but it's on the cards.

Today we hit the buffets hard. We've only eaten two meals, because that's all you need to eat in Vegas. We had a breakfast buffet at the hotel, then we headed down to the Aladdin Hotel for 'The Best Voted Buffet in Vegas'. It was pretty good, but at $25 it would want to be. We got there for lunch at about 4 o'clock, having never fully recovered our appetites from breakfast, and there was a lineup for it at least 50 people long.

Tomorrow the plan is to check out the MGM Grand, and a bunch of other stuff. On Sunday night we're going to a show, called 'Le Reve' or something. It was created by the guy who created the famous Cirque De Soleil show 'O', which we couldnt get tickets for.

I have uploaded some new photos for your perusal.

Hope everyone is doing well, I'll update again soon!
