Maui

Aloha!

Sorry for the lack of updates, we havent had net access for the last couple of days as we've been in Maui. We are staying in a funky little cottage on the north shore of Maui near the hippy centre of the universe, the small town of Paia. It gives Byron Bay a run for it's money. They have like this supermarket here that is just all hippy food. We just bought some organic cat food for a cat that has adopted us. It's full of hippies and little hippy jewelry stores, but it has some really nice restaurants. We have had the best food in Paia that we have had yet in Hawaii.

Before we left for Maui we took a two hour bus trip up to the North Shore of Oahu to see the surf. Unfortunately it was a kinda stormy day and the surf was really messy. The surf on Maui has been a bit better. Big, but still quite messy. We got a few pictures, which really don't give you sense of the size of the waves, but just a tip, look for the little dots floating on the water which are the surfers :) Anyway, it's been pretty big, but still not massive. Jaws isn't breaking just yet.

Today we went for a drive up to the summit of the local volcano - Haleakala. At 10,000 feet, it was probably the highest point we'll ever stand on. The view was absolutely amazing. We got some great photos, which due to my time restrictions I will upload at a later date. While it was raining down at base camp, it was beautiful and clear at the summit. It is always clear up there, as it is above the cloud level. From the top we could see Mauna Loa over on the big island, which appeared to have some snow on the top of it. It felt like there should be snow on the top of Haleakala as it was absolutely effin freezing. You would never think you could feel so cold in Hawaii.

Tomorrow the plan is to drive down to Hana which is this small town on the other side of the volcano. The main attraction is actually the drive there along the Hana Highway which is a beautiful winding coastal drive through tropical rainforest. There are also waterfalls and plunge pools along the way.

On Monday we're going on a whale watching cruise, and the plan for Tuesday is horse riding. Mel says, "giddy up kids".

Righto, that's it for now. Just thought I'd let you know that we hadn't died or anything. Even though Mel thinks we're going to in our secluded cottage. Anyway, laaaaate.
