Our first full day in Hawaii saw us spending some time down on
Waikiki beach. We're staying up at the West end of Waikiki so it's a bit of a trek to the
main beach itself. We consider that a good thing though, it burns off the fatty American food :)
We flew in late last night and endured the new security system implemented by the Department of Homeland Security. Basically they take your fingerprint (digitally), take a picture of you with this webcam looking thingy, ask you a few questions, and send you on your way. Well that's how it works in theory. In reality it involved about 45 minutes of standing around waiting for them to try and get it to work. The worst part about it was that they've got this video that loops incessantly that has Tom Ridge telling us the benefits of the new (non-working) security system which has replaced the old video they used to play at Honolulu airport which featured Tom Selleck and the gang from Hawaii 5-0. What the hell man?
Luckily for us the hotel we're staying at has complimentary high speed net access. It's turned out quite well considering that until 12:30am the morning we left we didnt have any accommodation organised for our first night due to some confusion involving the international date line.
All in all, I feel strangely at home here. I'm sitting here watching Family Guy and chatting to people on the net. So, pretty much what I'd be doing back in Australia right now.
This evening we did a bit of food shopping. Holy crap everything is expensive here.
Anyway, tomorrow we're planning on hiking up
Diamond Head which should be fun.
Bye for now!
