It's apparently World Habitat Day, and campus sidewalks are covered in awareness-raising messages about Habitat for Humanity, written in brightly-colored sidewalk chalk. One such message jumped out at me as I meandered into work this morning:
"Housing cunstruction creates job opportunities in low-income countries."
I was shocked and appalled for part of a second, not quite sure what I was seeing, and then I spent the next two seconds looking for euphemisms. Finally, I settled for simultaneous amusement and disgust. I work at a university, for God's sake.
I hope this was just one person acting alone; a typo is understandable, but a chalking buddy should have caught this. (Usually, they travel in groups of three or four for this sort of thing, though, and pat each other on the back for a job well-chalked XD)
oh sweet heavens. illiteracy
