a cuntry full of spoiled children

nothing new but I'm just putting the link here anyway

ugh, so I originally wanted to write my dissertation on how the lack of a conflict resolution service in companies impedes individual/company growth/development

which would have been fun,

but was told that it's not relevant to my mission at the company.
so instead, the dissertation would now be on how technology/info systems have accelerated HR processes and its limitations. oh my gawd, snore

anyway, while I was previously doing literature review for the first topic, I found something that I, as an Asian-American working in France, find a bit mouth-dropping:

historically, "work-related stress" has been thought about and researched on in N. Europe and Anglo-Saxon countries for 4 decades. the subject was not addressed in France before the 1990's, as it was a stigma to believe that work could ever be the cause of stress. then in 2004, France made a law in their Code du travail, the Article L.230-2: Obligation de sécurité de résultat.

"Le chef d'établissement prend les mesures nécessaires pour assurer la sécurité et protéger la santé 'physique et mentale' des travailleurs de l'établissement, y compris les travailleurs temporaires. Ces mesures comprennent des actions de prévention des risques professionnels, d'information et de formation ainsi que la mise en place d'une organisation et de moyens adaptés. Il veille à l'adaptation de ces mesures pour tenir compte du changement des circonstances et tendre à l'amélioration des situations existantes."

in other words, bosses are required by law to do everything they can to prevent their employees from this risk of WORK STRESS. if shît's already gone down, then bosses should take measures to improve the situation.

aside from the managers' betchy attitude (and ok fine, unfavorable working conditions), what can possibly cause work stress? it's not like they ever have to be afraid of being fired, and even when laid off, French people still get unemployment pay which is still like 70% of their last salary, unemployment movie/museum discounts.

I wonder why people aren't happier here. I wonder why there's this weird negative tension between everyone in Paris. France is a very giving fatherly government and its citizens are just stuck-up whiney spoiled children.

did I also mention that they culturally don't believe in conflict resolution?
there's no such thing as "compromise." French people, on TV or in real life, love to debate and argue; they're raised on that shît. schools teach people how to form, build, and convey their argument. no one really cares about the reasoning or logic behind their opinions because it's all about the structure of these arguments. a French debate on tv is piled with gawking in big words and in the end, well, there's never a common ground. not between politicians, and not between friends. people argue, stop, then change the subject. it's the most awkard and turbulent form of relationship I can imagine. it's not as if these debates are intellectually stimulating in any way.

but then, maybe I haven't lived here long enough to really appreciate all this French-ness I'm currently rolling my eyes at.
