East Point Friends and Family

Apr 07, 2009 22:05

Just got back from a wake for a friend named Beverly. I've known Beverly since moving to East Point. She was one of the many people who extended their hands to me and Cynthia.

Beverly was like a big sister..who really, really liked her white Zinfandel. We usually found her sitting at the Tavern holding court. So it was very fitting that her wake was there.

It seems that everyone in the community showed up. The present mayor and the past mayor showed up. We all missed her; you could see it in everyone's eyes because we knew that Ms. Beverly would not be holding court there anymore.

One other thing that got me is that the East Point Tavern is really a real tavern, not a Cheers, or a Bennigans or a Ruby Tuesday. Or even Moe's. But a real tavern where everyone comes to talk about everything from political situations to "omg, have you seen so-and-so's yard". Actually it is a bizarre cheers where everyone does know your name, who you've been sleeping with and where the bodies are buried. God, I love that.

If the East Point Tavern is a bizarro Cheers, does that make me a bizarro Frasier Crane? You really need to see their Carla.

Okay, it's time to go to bed now. Gotta go back to the salt mine tomorrow. Gotta wear Band-Aids.
