[Kdrama] - Monstar (Episodes 1-7)
I've been glued to the kdrama "Monstar" which has a very "Dream High" istic plot.
There's an idol.
And there is a musical competition
Good music.
School/teenager setting.
And most importantly: There's "heart".
I feel for the characters - I want to get to know them - and I do. My heart wrenches at times. It's what i wanted "Dream High 2" to be.
I wouldn't say that B2ST's Yong Jun-hyung is the best actor, but he's good. I had an "idol" vibe when I saw him act. But it could be influenced by his role - where he plays an idol. I didn't recognize him - which is kind of funny since I was/am hooked to B2ST's "Beautiful Night" last year.
The plot isn't entirely new. Idol falls in love with a country bumpkin. Most likely that's the plot of a few manga/manhwas. The country bumpkin though is really obvious. And being a kdrama, there is a love quadruple. The class president also crushes on the country bumpkin. And the scary/gangster-like girl likes the class president (ok that is something new). Nana (gangster girl) is a bit refreshing.
This show features a lot of good music. My favourites are below:
Episode 1: The Wind Blows
"Radio" (The guy)'s voice is AMAZING. Apparently he's a musical actor. There's not much on his bio. Anyways he's probably my favourite singer out of the bunch. He can act and sing very well.
Episode 2: Trouble Maker (Hyunseung, Hyuna)
It's just fun to hear, partly because Trouble Maker's originally a CUBE collaboration peice. Yong Jun-hyung's B2ST bandmate Hyun Seung sang it with 4Minute's Hyuna.
Episode 3: Rainism (Rain/Bi), Abacadabra (Brown Eyed Girls), Noona You're so Pretty/Replay (Shinee), Heartbeat (2PM), Nobody (Wonder Girls)
I just love the songs he sings. I listen to all/was a fan of all of them except WG's Nobody. The boy sings so well. Shinee's Replay really suits him (probably my favourite cover out of all of them).
Episode 4: Canon in D
Bromance in the air...Need I say more?
Episode 5: I am the Best (2NE1)
I really really really love the beatboxing. It's amazing. And the singing too. The actor who played Radio is awesome. You can hear the excitement in his voice. I like this way more than the original.
Episode 6: First Love Original song by BTOB and Junghyun
I didn't know who those guys were. I found out by the comments on youtube. I really like this song. I need a studio version! The guys in the white spiderweb tshirt (0:26) and the guy in the black shirt (0:49) stood out the most for me.
Episode 6: I Will Love You (by Zoo)
Sunwoo woos the girl he likes with this gentle acoustic piece. Charming.
Episode 7: Amazing Grace
You can hate her character, but she has a very clear voice. I love how she enunciates her English - which I find lacking in English covers by cpop/kpop idols.
