Merry Christmas. Yeah right.
Shim Changmin practically glared a hole into the air…or at least he tried to. What the air around him had done to offend him, Changmin wasn’t so sure himself. He just felt like directing his bad mood at something. Anything. Anything to appease him at the moment. However, the more the young food-lover glared into empty space from the living room couch, he turned even more rotten.
He just didn’t get it. Why in the world would his hyung leave him all by himself in the apartment when they were mere hours away from Christmas? Changmin usually wouldn’t complain about being alone. As a matter of fact, he embraced solitude, but today of all days when he didn’t want to be left to himself…
“Where is Yunho-hyung? I’m going to beat his behind when he gets back.” Yes, the youngest had no idea where his hyung went. Literally, Yunho woke up early that morning, got a shower, got dressed, and left the apartment. He didn’t utter a word to the maknae. Yunho didn’t even leave a note!
Changmin’s eyebrow twitched at the memory. I mean…he could have told him where he was going. Suddenly, Changmin gave a deep chuckle. What was he going on about? It isn’t like Yunho had to check in on him to go anywhere. He wasn’t his hyung’s omma. On the other hand, something kept nagging the back of Changmin’s mind that something was wrong. Yunho had been gone ALL day. No phone call. No text message. Nada.
The disgruntled maknae sat up from the soft cushions, glare still in place. “Stupid hyung.” Although the mutter was low, he still wished with all his heart that Yunho heard and felt his sentiments loud and clear. The power of Changmin’s attempted telepathy must have got to his stomach, because it growled a complaint along the lines of “I’m hungry” or “Feed me” or something like that. The man couldn’t refuse the request, so off to the kitchen he went to fulfill his tummy’s demands.
As he opened the refrigerator, he saw the reason that ticked him off even further that day. In the refrigerator was his and Yunho’s supposed Christmas food. The duo made a vow that they would not touch this food until Christmas day (which meant the moment 12:00AM came around on Christmas Day, the food was open game). Christmas was not that far around the corner, and yet here was this delicious food taunting the poor maknae. Changmin groaned and closed the fridge. He didn’t feel hungry anymore.
Instead, he decided to drag himself back to the living room and faceplant back into the couch. One would think he and the couch had a special relationship right now. In reality, he was quite annoyed with the inanimate object. Changmin didn’t know why. He just was. “I blame hyung.”
Right on cue, a good-looking guy decked out in winter gear strolled into the apartment, paying no heed to the hungry, annoyed young man. Changmin peeped up to look at the intruder, a dangerous glint in his eye. The newcomer headed into the kitchen, opened the fridge, and started packing the Christmas meal into large containers. Wait…wtf?
“YAH! What the heck do you think you are doing, hyung?” Yunho glanced up from his task and gave his charming smile. “Ah~What’s up, Minnie? How’s your day been?”
Like a rope hanging by a fringe…like a twig under unbearable pressure…like a man who was fed up with a wasted day of worrying over an idiot who didn’t even bother to call or text him to give the notice that he was ok yet comes back without a care in the world and starts snatching THEIR Christmas food for God knows what reason…
He snapped.
“How.was.my.DAY?! Is that all you can say to me? HOW WAS MY DAY?!”
Yunho suddenly felt like a small man, despite their being similar in height. “Uh…”
“NO! Since you asked, I’m going to tell you all about my day. I woke up this morning to the front door opening and closing, not realizing until I was half-way sane that it was you. Little did I know that you were going to be gone the whole day, but I digress. I have no freakin’ clue what YOU did, but I know what I did, and what I did was pace about the apartment ALONE, watched boring TV shows ALONE, made instant ramen for lunch ALONE, epic failed playing COD4 ALONE, and took an irrelevant nap on that stupid couch ALONE! Don’t give me that look!”
Yunho instantly snapped his mouth shut, not wanting to anger his dongsaeng any further.
“I have called you today more times than I can recall the clothes of every female that has walked pass the apartment window today. Trust me; that’s a LOT! I almost feel sorry for your phone. It probably near collapsed from all the messages I sent you. Of course, since you didn’t respond to any of them, I became a little bothered. ‘Gee, I wonder where hyung is? Is that babo even still alive?’ But don’t feel too loved. I contemplated your punishment as well. I’m STILL trying to decide whether to punch you in the face or break your fingers! ON THAT NOTE, why are your fingers on OUR Christmas food BEFORE Christmas? The last time I checked, it’s a whole hour before we can eat it. I, the lonesome victim in this situation, has been taunted by that food ALL.DAY! Here you are, though, prancing into the apartment like no crap could be given, paying no attention to me whatsoever, and what’s the first thing that you do? THAT!” Changmin points an accusing finger at Yunho’s hands, which were in the midst of situating the food in one of the containers. “Now. Explain.”
Yunho did something that shocked the maknae a bit: he laughed. Jung Yunho, the man who practically ditched Changmin on Christmas Eve to do whatever he did that day, was laughing in his face as if everything was all good. The Min was not amused. “YAH! What are you laughing about? Do you think this is funny?”
“We think this is funny.”
Changmin swirled around to the front door. “I didn’t ask you, Yoochun, so wipe that stu…pid…huh?”
Ok, he was going crazy from anger, right? He couldn’t possibly be seeing Yoochun, Jaejoong, and Junsu at the front door. Jaejoong…Yoochun…Junsu…they were all fake. They had to be…
“Yunho-hyung, you are sick. Where did you hire the look-alikes?”
The Junsu “look-alike” jawdropped, aghast by Changmin’s assumption. “How could you say that, Minnie? No one is as charismatic as I am!” The dolphin boy put both his fists on each hip and held his head high to emphasize his point. Changmin blinked. He sure sounded a lot like Junsu…
“Hy-Hyungs? B-but why are you…”
Jaejoong held his finger up to his lips as if their being in the apartment was a secret. “Yunho’s idea. We’ll talk later. We got a feast to carry out.”
Changmin, confusion shown in all its glory on his face, turned to the leader for confirmation. Yunho’s silent smile told him everything. Guilt never felt so painful. Here he was thinking that Yunho was off gallivanting around having fun without him when he was really getting things ready for this Christmas surprise. Yunho must have saw the look of guilt wash over Changmin because he walked up to youngest and placed a firm but gentle hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry I worried you. However, it was all worth it, right?” Changmin glanced up at Yunho’s face. All the anger he had built up from the entire day was washed away in an instant. He suddenly felt like he was the best hyung in the world for granting his Christmas wish this year: for all of them to be together.
It was going to be a Merry Christmas after all.
