Seventh Eden: Leader of the Mirages

[Action: 502 Ricardo St.]

[Another month had passed since being in Mayfield. That made two so far, but since the first and second incidents, things seem to be dying down. There certainly wasn't anything quite as life-threatening as a wide-scale zombie epidemic anyway. While she has been told that the postman makes a special delivery every month, ( Read more... )

Isn't dying sort of required for that?

I prefer to think of it as rebirth. You're still alive. But from the looks of things, it seems like one would be perfect to have around our chaotic, little town.

[He's slightly mortified... but a little curious, too]

So how does it even work? Turning someone into an angel?

If everything goes well, it'll be a very simple procedure. All I have to do is rewrite your internal coding, both genetic and etc. That should be simpler for interested folks who are a little squeamish with death and dying.

[And as this girl is speaking, her tone implies that what she's talking about is one of the most nonchalant things out there.]

[Well. There's some awkward silence]

Re-writing someone's genes is simple?

I've hacked into worlds and dimensions in the past. You'd think that a human couldn't be more complex.

[But deep down, they really were. It's strange that way. Clod, however, would be willing to give another go at hacking into a human life considering how impossible it seems to hack into the town itself.]

[He may regret asking this, but...]

Alright, so what happens if it goes wrong? Worst case scenario?

Then you'll be back in your bed by the next day.

[He thinks for a moment, then]

So if I said yes and let you make me an angel, you'd be changing me from the ground up. So I'd lose all the abilities I already have, right?

If everything goes through well enough, probably. Or there may even be improvements on your abilities. But if not, then you'll probably just return back to normal as you find yourself in bed the next day.

[All of this was speculation, of course, but Clod was confident that this is how it would turn out.]

[He can't believe he's actually considering this... but he can't keep on like he has been]

Alright, sell me on it. What makes being an angel so great that I should risk giving up what I have?

[Skepticism with vague hints of earnest curiosity... Clod likes that.]

Nothing this town sends at you will be able to hurt you. Guardian Angels, like their namesakes, are tasked with protecting order. It's a win-win situation for everybody.

[If he told anyone he's considering this, they'd probably beat him senseless. That still doesn't stop him from asking another question]

And my personality? Will it stay the same, or do I become a drone angel?

You certainly will have more control of yourself than any drone, yes.

[Clod thinks about this for a moment. In certain cases like with Zohar, "personality" has been completely wiped out, but other Guardian Angels have been known to keep their personalities. At least, one certainly had enough control to rebel against her own master. It seems to vary.]

It's not an issue of control. I mean, I get that you're not going to brainwash me. I meant more emotions. If I'm going to suddenly stop caring about my girlfriend, then I'm out.
