Character Name: Yoshiya “Joshua” Kiryu
Character Age: 15 (Physically, in reality significantly older, a guestimate would be at least 100)
Canon + Format: The World Ends With You (Game)

Personality: What’s prominent about Joshua’s personality is that he’s a snotty brat. He doesn’t like doing heavy legwork unless it’s an absolute necessity. Still, Josh prefers other people doing the work for him. He also loves teasing people by twisting words, but at the same time he can twist words so bad that he can hurt someone quite badly with them. He has an air of arrogance around him, and it isn’t entirely unjustifiable. Joshua is confident in everything he does, and doesn’t normally second-guess himself. He’s powerful even if he neither looks nor acts like it.
However, beneath all of the arrogance is an extremely intelligent and wise character. He’s perceptive and aware of the people around him. Living for as long as he has, Joshua has seen many types of people, from the bad to the good. Yet he has seen more people with bad qualities than he has good qualities, and not many of them change when he grants them second life. As a result, he has a cynical attitude toward people and their ability to change. But when he sees Neku change for the better, Joshua starts to feel hope that the people of Shibuya can change.
Joshua is not the most honest person anyone will ever meet. At best, he tells partial truths, but for the most part he lies. He’s convincing as an actor and liar, and it’s hard to tell what he’s thinking. Joshua’s signs are subtle, and the only person who can really read him is Sanae Hanekoma because of the bond they share. He appears to be indifferent to others and their pain. Yet once someone manages to worm their way into his heart, Joshua will care, but he hides it deep within himself.
Sanae has also noted once before to Neku that he is really a lonely person deep down. Joshua doesn’t have anything in the way of friendship, other than his tie with Hanekoma. As he is the Composer of Shibuya, he isn’t permitted to leave the hidden base on the other side of the Shibuya River. Not to mention he will more likely than not outlive anyone he considers a friend, and his personality tends to keep people away from him. Hanekoma also notes in a Secret Report that Josh had looked sad as he watched Neku reunite with his friends, most likely because he cannot join them.

*Every city has a rhythm, a particular music it dances to. Joshua can hear/feel it since he’s the Composer. For the most part, people aren’t aware of a city’s ‘song’ until they enter the UG.
*His cell phone can call down random things to fall on someone. Usually it’s something small to medium sized.
*He can also levitate at a decent height. While levitating, he can call down beams of light instead of random things you usually find in a city.
*Josh’s cell phone is just the neatest thing ever. He can use the camera to take a photo of the past, but that only works three times a day. The camera can also move someone from one place over to the other side and stun them for a brief amount of time as a dodge skill.
*He can jump between dimensions, but it does take a bit of energy from him. He rarely uses this ability.
*Joshua can create a pact with a Player without their permission.
*It will take a lot of effort to read his mind or mess with his mind in any way.
*Bullets stop in mid-air when they near him, so it’s very difficult to kill him.
*Although ageless, this does not mean that he cannot be killed by the hands of someone out for the status of the Composer. It’s just easier said than done.
*He’s the one who ‘judges’ who is worthy of being granted second life, and will grant it to a person who shows worth.
*Joshua is the one who makes up the rules for the Reaper’s Game. The Reapers are also his ‘underlings,’ however it’s very rare for them to actually see his face, let alone know his name. The Composer usually acts through his second-in-command, the Conductor.
*He can create barriers that only effect spirits/the dead.
Items/Weapons: Cell phone (‘weapon’), angel feather, his clothes

Well! This is an unexpected turn of events.
[Josh is seen leaning casually against the wall of an obscure building, expression one of pleasant amusement.]
The words were nice and neat, but I’m afraid that I’m not much of a believer. Isn’t it just a shame that any concrete proof was lost? Still, talk about your identity crisis.
[He sounds and looks confident in his identity, but otherwise seems absolutely unconcerned about the situation.]
So, how are the rest of you dealing with the situation?
Third Person Sample:
Joshua walked through the streets of Boston in contemplation, but he wasn’t so immersed in his thoughts that his guard was down. No matter what city it was, it was stupid for someone to let down their guard, especially if they were alone. With his powers as they were, the silverette felt that he should be more cautious than ever before.
Yet, his mind wandered to the information he had received, the broken, disjointed music of the city fading into the background. They had told him that he wasn’t ‘Joshua,’ and he denied that. Joshua knew perfectly well who he was, and he was immediately suspicious of the place and its residents. He had been perfectly pleasant to the nice greeter, but it changed nothing.
He was Yoshiya Kiryu, Composer of Shibuya. He was the one who almost Erased Shibuya from the face of the earth, but had a change of heart when he saw Neku change into someone better. He was in charge of the Game, making the rules and judging who was able to gain a second chance of life.
“Give up on yourself, and you give up on the world.”
Josh’s trademark smile upturned his lips. Wasn’t he the one to say that to Neku? He chuckled softly. Perhaps he should practice what he preached.
His thoughts squared away for the time being, he let Boston’s broken song wash over him again, wincing slightly at the disjointed notes and harmonies. It was time for him to look for something to do, be it work or just an activity that could kill the boredom he would no doubt feel soon.
