Stories and stories

The Golem and the Jinni is over, leaving me filled with  :,(  :)  <3.

Their personalities and physical descriptions are different, but there were times when the Jinni reminded me of other characters I have loved. A couple of times when described as tall and elegant in a floor-length garment, like at Fadwa's "wedding," he sounded like Marius from the Vampire Chronicles, ancient and composed and complaining about "barbarian garb," i.e. pants, only Ahmad was olive-skinned, dark-haired and dark-eyed. His inner heat should have rung a bell sooner, but when he snapped his fingers to light a candle for Arbeely, it suddenly became obvious how many firebending traits he shared with Dustfinger from Inkheart. And then toward the end when he held his tin flask close, it made me think of Odo in DS9 season four, trapped in the body of a solid, considering what to do with his old regeneration bucket.

My book crush on him remains undiminished. Will this lead to fic? I hope so. Because I want a story where the Jinni and Sophia cross paths while traveling somewhere warm and have a tryst that takes more precautions than their first two encounters and maybe helps her heal as well. I want a story where the Jinni somehow comes in contact with Fadwa's spirit and apologizes to her in a way he has never done with anyone before, and allows her to rest. I want a story where he keeps Chava warm in winter. I want a story where he shows her what it's like to be with a good lover, encouraging where Michael suppressed. Maybe after Chava comes to life again in Central Park, surrounded by earth, where the desires of everyone in the city are muffled; maybe in one of the shadowed groves where she has seen others furtively coupling. I want a story where they argue about and play with dominance and subservience roles. Where they talk about being among European Jewish and Syrian Christian people but not of them. I want a story where Schaalman makes one or both of them do kinky-terrible things in the dance hall. I want a story where Arbeely realizes he may have feelings for Ahmad, especially if they are of a grey-A variety.

The fact that somehow there are only three fics on the AO3 may help. Plus a long plane ride tomorrow followed by a few days of loosely structured vacation. But we'll see. Recent experience tempers expectations. It's a hard writing style to get right, and I'm not sure I'm up to meeting that level of characterization. Maybe jotting down those bunnies is as far as it goes. Or maybe I can channel my interest in the Jinni into finishing that Dustfinger poly story from last year.
