(be warned, it might contain spoilers, depending on how far in the game you are)
(part 1: from general opionions of the game to review of Mulgore and Azshara)
ok, so... I've started playing WoW. Again. It's all
paddo's and
goriakh's fault, really, 'cause if it was for me alone I would have just been content with missing my lvl80 Tauren. We just switched from NA to EU servers (makes more sense since we do live in Europe after all...).
To be honest, I was also sceptical about Cataclysm. Very sceptical.
I mean, I knew Deathwing had to come back sooner or later, but...
- The old world... almost completely changed, geography-wise. But that's the least.
- Thrall... gone. And I don't really like Garrosh. I don't hate him, but I don't like him at all so far. And I love Thrall to bits.
- Cairne... GONE. Being a hardcore Tauren player, that was the hardest blow for me... I do love Bairne though, always had (and I can't say Magatha's and the Grimtotem's betrayal came as a surprise...)
- The Undead... treated as outcast. Again. All because of what happened at the Wrathgate. Which we all know was NOT Sylvanas' fault, right?
- New races... MORE NEW RACES. *sighs* I want Murlocs, dammit! XD
- New Orgrimmar... makes sense with the earthquake, but it's gotten too confusing now. And I fear it'll get too laggy. Again. I had hoped that the days of 'I can't even walk in Shatt/Dala it's so laggy' were gone, but I might be wrong. We'll see.
Enough with my initial thoughts, let's get on with the zone-to-zone review.
In case there's someone reading this who doesn't know my game likings, I am, as I said above, a die-hard Tauren player. I love everything about the race, from looks to lore to classes. Which is why my main is the exact copy (at least physically for now) of my old lvl80, a Tauren druid.
MULGORE
At first I was pretty annoyed that Blizzard made low-lvl areas so much easier and faster to complete, but after a few days into the game, I came to appreciate it. I mean, knowing you have 85 lvls to go, you can only be happy about completing these quests faster.
I say this for Mulgore, but that's something that goes for all zones: I'm sorry for the people who started playing WoW only from Cata. I can't say I'm a veteran of the game from its first days, but I've played since when there was only the main game all through Outlands and Northrend expansions, and I've basically done all the quests there were, at least Horde-side (yeah, I'm a quest freak!). And I can say that many new quests can only be appreciated fully by those who played before Cata came. Like, in Camp Narache, how you used to help Greatmother Hawkwind and now she's dead, killed by the Bristlebacks ;_; pretty sad... (I loved the old lady >.<)
Another surprise waited for me in Bloodhoof Village, in the form of a brand new flight path... hehe, I pretty much loved it XD (even if at first I was like 'wtf? people got too lazy to walk from here to TB? -.-')
ORGRIMMAR
As you might know, Thunder Bluff and Mulgore got isolated from the Barrens, and the only way out now is by wind rider or zep. And the next, obvious stop is at the capital of the new Horde, Orgrimmar.
Orgrimmar has changed a lot. It wasn't easy to navigate through the city and not get lost, lol. Org is getting as packed as it used to be before Shattrath City and Dalaran, and I'm really glad I have a more powerful computer than last time XD
Now you can find also Tauren, Goblin and Troll quarters in Orgrimmar... (I'll always like TB better though, sorry XD)
AZSHARA
Azshara is also one of the areas that changed a lot. The Horde took over the area (and the shape of the area itself looks like the Horde symbol as well, if looked from the right side, hehe...), and you will find tons of Goblins. I must admit that their rocketway was pretty funny to ride XD
One of the quest chains I loved doing here consisted in finding Azuregos. Remember that big-ass dragon from the Blue flight roaming Azshara? Of course you do! Now he's gone missing, and Kalecgos wants you to go find him.
Other funny quests involved smart raptors that go into space leaving us to our doomed (?) destiny, adorable talking Murlocs (even if this one is part of the Azuregos chain, I absolutely want a Murloc pet!! >.<), and the reason I changed my mind about Goblins (but you never heard that from me): airborne Goblin priests and bombing Gob squads!!
