stone me

seems I am working a kidney stone - again.

dammit dammit dammit.

faithful and frighteningly obsessive readers may observe a trend... the september/october stone. 3rd year in a row. of course it all started in October 2002 when I had to have surgery (3 times) to get rid of the original monstrous "lima-bean sized" stone.

Since that time I have kept to a low-oxalate diet, and have not passed a stone since... apparently when I produce them, and they lodge in my ureter, they are small enough, and brittle enough that they eventually break up and are passed with no sensation at all like grains of very fine sand. Let's hope this one goes that way too. Now if I can just get it out of the kidney and into the bladder to let the disolving begin....

The low oxalate diet lists lots of strange and seemingly unrelated foods to avoid... things like grits, raspberries, eggplant, spinach, draft beer (but not bottled beer), pecans, walnuts, peanuts, soy nuts (but not almonds or cashews), tea, celery.... I am really good about it. But in the summer strawberries are so hard to avoid. I usually eat 4 or 5 all summer.... could that be enough to cause a stone 3 months later?

at least I have vicodin.

ugh.
