A li'l bit about me.
My username is: The name of a pub in Newford, a North-American city in the world of Charles DeLint's novels. It gets a mention in the novel "Green Heart". It's supposed to be middle-english for 'Birch tree', I've never verified that though. The Birch tree is meaningful to me magically, and in Green Heart, one of the character's - a brujeria - expresses the idea luck being more a better gift than power, because luck shared is never diminished. Also, I like the sound of the word.
My journal name is: BT, a contraction of Birkentree as well as an attempt at spawning an online and meatspace handle.
My title is: "Don't go there? I live there." A direct quote from one of Margaret Cho's shows. It's in reference to the idea of "too much information" and the normalising/censoring of people's stories because others are made uncomfortable or the content isn't 'polite'. While I don't think anyone should ignore another person's boundaries, I don't believe we should allow ourselves to be silenced about important things, like say... sexuality education, discrimination, or human rights.
My friends page is called: "They timeshare there..." An addendum to the journal title made by ishara and caeoimhin over Yum Cha. I think it suits the people I call friends here on LJ, as a whole they're outspoken, opinionated and have things worth saying.
My default userpic: "Why yes, I am made of awesome." Donna Noble, someone normal who did great things, and could change the world by shouting at it. While her (to-date) story ending seemed like a complete betrayal of the character, she was still capable of doing everything she'd done. She's a role model. Pray I never become a temp.
