So I've been meaning to read up on Pu-ehr tea now that Joey and I have been quickly moving through the supply at work. Joey is currently taking a break from drinking it because lately he 'hasn't felt right', and he thought it might be a good idea to ease down off the 3 bags per cup ratio he had achieved. Today I finally decided to do some research since in my experience, Pu-ehr is really weird:

*It tastes like moldy basement.
*The brewed tea appears dark and brown like coffee after awhile, but if you dont move the tea bag the amber steep, it concentrates in a small area in the bottom of your cup and becomes intimidating. Anyone experienced in Pu-ehr drinking will know what I am talking about.
*The bag can steep forever and still tastes ok, in fact maybe better. This fact is crucial at my work because any other tea I make is easily ruined by even a couple regular coffee-to-go customers.
*Pu-ehr has very little caffiene and the ability to make us instantly nice to people at work, even on a Saturday. In fact the 'euphoric' effect of Pu-ehr is so great that frankly I am shocked there is no heavy machinery warning on the package. This quality has led us to create the 'one person on staff has to refrain from being on the Pu-ehr' rule at work, and has caused too many hazy memories of KISS FM fueled laughter filled afternoons.

Of course I went first to Wikipedia where I read this:

"...Often times the tea is then formed into cakes or bricks, wrapped in paper or pomello rinds, and stored outside exposed to moisture, air, and heat in order to further mature. Then the tea is stored underground for several years before taking on the darker, mellower characteristics that make Pu'erh tea. This type of tea originated from the natural aging process that happened along the ancient caravan routes, and the tea bricks were at times used as a form of currency. The tea bricks developed a unique flavor that was then refined by aficionados. One of the most expensive and rare Pu'erh teas is made from the droppings of worms that eat stored Pu'erh bricks."

more info on the rare Pu-Ehr here, this is insane:
