This town is so full of ghosts its freaky..i swear all i'd have to do is find a class on how to listen to spirits and i'd never want to be awake or alone again. Though, it'd probably make for some intresting song fodder ( Read more... )

i pictured you saying that in a voice like marcy in Peanuts, when she starts describing the real meaning of Christmas. Yeah there's no way i can practice Friday.

whataya think of the bit that starts around 28 min...i think thats really strong, no doubt with a little help from delay, but that is pretty great for us live. the rest im not so into...

there were moments.. but i never think that my drums sound the way they should when i hear these cd's. not loud enough or something. also, we gotta do something about mixing the horns a little lower next time.

you need to remeber thats it is a soundborad recording and not really representative of how it sounded to the crowd. different levels are higher because the drums can be heard live and the trombone can't be. next time we should set up a mic in the back of the room. who knows how it sounded there, all i heard was LOUD ( ... )

my 2 cents on the metrognome set:

it seems to me like you guys played it too safe that night. tried to play 'tunes' and whatnot.
maybe cuz it was 'big' show or the venue or the presence of parents and friends. i dunno.
i think you guys had a chance to make the Cush looks totally totally square. and that didnt really happen. i think its best for those bigger shows (whatever that means) to bring your weirdest and most outrageous shit and really go for it hard.

the best NM sets in my opinion are the ones that get wild and woolly and weird.
when you guys are really loose, improvising around ideas but focused.
and when all the folks are on the same vibe. and everyone is really going for it and is IN it.

anyways, thats just my opinion on it.
you can tell me to fuck off at the potluck tonight if you want. haha

peace,
gd

thats good to hear. i appreciate that a lot. its definitly hard to plan a show that people can 'get into' and then either not get the response cause your simply not delivering, also not feeling it yourself.
things really need to have a degree of spontinaity but then nobody in he band really feels comfortable with 100 percent that...who knows.
the only way i'd tell you to fuck off, Greg is if you said that Dylan sucked.

ben,
im listening to the bootleg series this morning.
after watching that movie, i realized some new things about dylan and gained more respect for him. he didnt seem so cocky and prickish and unapproachable which were things i thought previously of dylan. i like the zen side of dylan. keep doing different things. keep changing and being in the moment regardless of people's expectations of what you should do (at least back in the day). even his lyrics and vocals have this channeling chant style stream of consciousness thing. and also that he did what he did well and was there IN it. but its not the most important thing in the world, its not holy scripture. its just dylan. that part where ginsberg says that dylan was like a column of breath i thought was really something.
so im really feeling dylan right now. i still pretty much dig the earlier acoustic stuff mostly. although some of the early electric and country-ish stuff is really good too.
peace,
gd
