Alright where do I start?
If spirituality is genetic, say a process of evolution, then we are rapidly losing it to science and Western medicine.
For example, early hominids would chant and make the sick go into a trance, if one would die, and another would become well, the stronger (more spiritual) would pass the gene on to future generations. As Native Americans settled in, they had no modern meidicines for the time while Europeans were studying science and the application of such things.
Natives had visions, chants, and a pure interaction with their own religion, not just faith. This was speaking to the animals, the birds, the six grandfathers, the one creator, what have you. And those who survived because of their spirituality kept it going.
Then Western settlers came in with medicines and housing comforts and now we live such sheltered lives.
What reasons do we have to be spiritual? We are now at such a devolved state of self-healing that we're more likely to kill ourselves with what we poison ourselves with everyday rather than live in harmony with the earth. If there comes a day when man should live solely off the land once man, we will become extinct, for nothing spiritual is left but faith, and faith will get you nowhere but happy when you die.
Science will overcome all, but fuck faith, fuck science, I want to be in touch with the spirit world.
You no longer need to be strong to survive, and the human gene pool is fucked, you see it everyday.
Look around you.
Peyote anyone? A false corridor to the spirit world will suffice.
