I'll make a confession here: I've never read any of the books of Harry Potter or Twilight nor seen any of the movies. Shocking, I know. And why not? Because I've been asked often enough by friends if I wanted to go with them to the movies or wanted to borrow the books because they were 'really good'. Apparently I was never interested enough. I have quite a list of things I want to read and watch (most of you will have experience with that!) and for something new to make it unto this list, it must make quite an impression.
Then why, do I ask myself, was I the one who asked a friend to come with me to The Hunger Games in the cinema? While I had only seen the trailer and read some blogposts about it beforehand. And why am I anxiously waiting for the books to arrive which I ordered? I can't quite put my finger at it, but I do know the movie has not disappointed me.
It might have been the original story. It might have been the strong female heroine. It might have been the thematic which kept me thinking for a few days afterwards and the possible links of the story to our own society. I still don't know, but apparently sometimes a hunch is enough to discover something new to enjoy!
