My entry for Challenge 26 over at
picspammy themed Setting: Scenery and Production Design. Because it's always summer in Lark Rise and Candleford and the beauties of these places should be showcased!
'There were always skylarks, their songs hanging over the fields of dark gold. As a child it felt as though
this quiet old countrylife had always been so, and would always be so.'
'I felt so proud of my friends in Lark Rise. Poor beyond imagining, yet they had
never lost the secret of being happy on little.'
'Perhaps we were all like those fields, dreaming in the sunshine, waiting for a future we knew nothing of.'
'It never rained when the fair came to town, it seemed to bring only sunshine and
laughter and great good fortune.'
'We made our own happiness, a harder one perhaps, and quiter, but al the sweeter for that.
Contentment in everyday joys and pleasure in the smallest things.'
'As I went on my way, gossamer threads, spanned from bush to bush like barricades.
As I broke through one after another, I was taken by a childish fear;
they are trying to bind and keep me here.
But as I grew, from girl to women I knew, the threads that bind me were more enduring than gossamer,
they were spun of kinship and love, given so freely, that it could never be taken away from me.'
'The singing, and the songs we sang, told something about the times in which we lived.
But it always felt like the hamlet, and all it stood for, must last forever. But change did come,
in the fields, across the whole of the country.
It was called progress. But those old ways lived forever in the human heart.'
