Yes, it's autumn... And how much more do you realize it when you live in a foresty area. Last monday the groundskeeper of our building was cleaning the drive of the mass of leaves. He was working on it practically all afternoon. Next morning, I looked out of my window... Poor man, the whole drive was a tapestry of leaves again, he could just start over!
1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5-10 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
wunderkind_lucy gave me the letter 'S'
1. Spring Carol from Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten
Because we sang the Ceremony of Carols a few years ago with my choir and I love this cheerful little song with it's old English lyrics.
Pleasure it is to hear iwis, the Birdes sing,
The deer in the dale, the sheep in the vale, the corn springing.
God's purveyance for sustenance, It is for man, it is for man.
Then we always to give hime praise, and thank him than.
2. Sing Alleluia by Third Day and Jennifer Knapp
Because it blends the words of the old, well-known hymn 'All creatures of our God and King' with new music and new lyrics and because I love hymns about nature.
Praise to the Giver of good things
Mericful Father, Holy king
Join with the angels, sing out loud
Praise Him who reigns above the clouds
3. Shine your light by Nicole Norderman & FFH
Because it voices the command from the Bible to be the light of the world in a very inspiring way.
Tell me why,
Why you got your secret locked inside?
Why you trying to keep it for your own
If he asks for bread
Tell me why, why you giving him a stone
4. Sing out by Celtic Women
Because I love Celtic Women and this is a beautiful song with hopefull lyrics
Sing a new song to the world
Let your voice be heard
Go and bring the word
This whole world was meant to be
For you as well as me
For humanity
5. Simmertreast by Gerrit Breteler
Because the person who wrote and performs this is my mother's neighbour and because the lyrics (if you can understand Frisian) are beautifully nostalgic.
Then the Butler wrote a poem,
how's his hand for words and rhyme
'The innocent and the beautiful,
have no enemy but time'
(small part of the song is in English)
6. Sarabande by G.F. Händel
Because Händel is one of my favourite classical composers and this piece of music is so elegant.
instrumental
7. Someday we'll know by Mandy Moore and Jonathan Foreman
Because it reminds me of the beautiful movie 'A walk to remember'
Someday we'll know
If love can move a mountain...
Someday we'll know
Why the sky is blue...
Someday we'll know
Why I wasn't meant for you...
8. Song of Freedom by Murray Gold from the Doctor Who season 4 soundtrack
Because the music of Dr. Who is epic in general and it should have a place on every 'favourite songs' list, and because this song is hauntingly beautiful and reminds me of all the greatness that is the Doctor and his many companions
instrumental
9. Strawberry Swing by Coldplay
Because the song perfectly describes how you can feel if you spent a day with a loved one.
Now the sky could be blue, I don't mind
Without you it's a waste of time
Could be blue, could be grey
Without you I'm just miles away
10. Somebody to love (the version as sung by Anne Hathaway as Princess Ella in Ella Enchanted)
Because it convinced me that Anne Hathaway can really sing and it's just a nice and catchy son
Oh Somebody, ooh (Somebody)
Anybody find me somebody to love?
(Anybody find me someone to love? )
Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat (You just keep losing and losing)
I'm ok, I'm alright (He's alright, he's alright)
I ain't gonna face no defeat (Yeah, yeah)
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
Someday I'm gonna be free, lord (One day I'm gonna be free, lord)
