Nov 03, 2013 10:23

these are the books i've read so far in 2013. if you're also on Goodreads, you'll notice that there are some books here (labelled nGR) that do not appear in my Goodreads challenge totals. this is for various reasons. sometimes they are re-reads that were counted in my 2012 tally, sometimes they are re-reads that i just didn't feel like including, ( Read more... )

Ah, so ye've read Rainbow and Rilla! Is it too late to discuss after all these months? Shall we wait and maybe brush up later? Or blow it off? I can clear the queue, no pressure.:)

Also, 107? I'm so impressed! I'll be lucky to break 100 this year with all the boring stuff I refuse to finish or give up on.

I was just thinking about our abandoned discussion when I was typing up this list. I would love to continue discussing the Anne books. And I still need to respond to your posts about House of Dreams and Ingleside. How about I try to do that before the end of the year? And maybe we could put Rainbow and Rilla on the slate for the first couple of months in 2014. Only a year late. Sad to say, I've actually had essays that were even more overdue.

I'm pleased about the 107 although I didn't read nearly as many "serious" novels as I was planning. I always get sucked in by the shiny YA fantasy fic. ;)

And amazingly, it replaced the first one. Anyway, that's what that shelf looks like now.:)

I was going to read more serious stuff, too, and ended up going all random and just buying new books to read instead. My big goal is to finish the 6 or 7 that I've been reading all year in the next two months.

Part of the fun of having our own comm is we can come back whenever we want. Meaning next year will be fine. I totally get the attraction of the shiny. :D

Awesome reshoot! My bookshelf icons never work out as well as I think they're going to. I should try again. But, of course, being me, that would mean rearranging all the bookshelves so the colours are purty ...

And you are awesome for waiting for me to catch the hell up. ;)

That's my favorite bookcase. Mark got it for me at a yard sale before we were married. (This is significant because it's a style that's hard to find and would have sold high in his store.) I have it right by my desk and it used to be my favorites. Now I'm transitioning it to all LGBTQI, but the decorations are the same. Half of the top shelf is still random books, 'cause my LGBTQI collection isn't quite big enough yet. But I'm working on it. I recently got Portrait of a Marriage. :D

I totally want to know what you think of Portrait of a Marriage! I like bookcases that have sentimental as well as practical value. One of my bookcases used to be in my sister's bedroom and I have since moved it at least half a dozen times (it's a heavy mofo made back in the day of solid construction) and repainted it twice. First black - yes, yes, I know, it was a dismal phase I was going through. And, most recently, a sort of robin's egg blue. I'm glad you have at least one special bookcase for special books. *HUGS*

I actually have two. The other is right next to this one but it's less picturesque. It was my dad's and he kept his comic books in it right beside his bed. They were really old and valuable, stuff from his childhood in the 40s and 50s as well as his grownup collection through the early 80s. He never outgrew Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge. My sister has the comics and I have the bookcase, each according to her interest.:)

It's funny that your dad kept his comics beside his bed. B's bedside bookcase (which is very small) is pretty much taken up with his Tin-tin collection.

He actually kept them in a big box in his closet until I was about 11, so my sister and I wouldn't destroy them. After that, the rule was we could only read them in the bedroom and they had to be put back exactly where they were each time. There weren't many material things that he actually cared about, but when he did, he cared a *lot*.

My sister became a comic collector, too. I never had the patience (or the money) to keep up with the story lines and crossovers. Though I have been known to flirt with graphic novels.

I never got really into comics either. I think because I read words so quickly, they tend to make me a bit dizzy. o_O

That might be my problem, too. Not dizziness, exactly, but that there aren't enough words for the money. It reminds me of buying really little kids' books as a kid, like Clifford and Garfield. It was so unfair that they cost the same as fat paperbacks with lots and lots of words.:D

My graphic novel collection is almost entirely books that have have movies based on them. I always need to check out the book.

there aren't enough words for the money - so true!! The more words, the better, I always feel. :D

I would very much like to know the contents of your LGBTQI bookshelf... I have one as well (or part of a shelf for one) and it's depressingly small!

I didn't have the energy to type so I did a video. And some of the Kindle books are on my GR on the gay-times shelf.

Video - yay! I think that's the first time a video has ever appeared on my LJ. ;)
