WoooooHoooo!
Late posting because I didn't get back until rather late yesterday and just tumbled into bed (I'm such an old lady-ha!).
Yesterday I drove up to Indy for the day. I went to my friend L's house so we could carve pumpkins. I love that part of Halloween! We put on my Halloween playlist, covered the table in tarps and got to work. I particularly wanted my pumpkin (whose name ended up being Percival) to have a mouth full of teeth, so I checked out a couple ideas from the internet and found one I think I could work with.
My friend, L., had chosen the pumpkins and I must say that she did a fantastic job. I grabbed this one--nice flat surface, pleasing stem, etc. The game is afoot!
Mmmmmmm pumpkin guts! L is toasting the seeds. By the time we got finished gutting 3 HUGE pumpkins we had a bumper crop of seeds. Sadly, I had to leave before they dried/were toasted. *sigh* I'm hoping she'll bring some today :)
I was quite pleased to find that my pumpkin was harboring these little ones. I waver back and forth between thinking of them as seedling declarations of love or imagining that they are the Siamese twins of pumpkin genetics. *sporfle*
This is my finished product! *happy Birdie* He'll be adorning my porch this evening. The eyes/nose are pretty simple, but I was really concerned with making a good scary mouth--that's the part I usually hit the fail button on. This time, it was made of WIN!
And this is my friend L's pumpkin. She wanted to go with the pirate thing, and I think she did a fabulous job!
I'm very proud of us both for freehanding our designs....it's gotten so easy to use templates, but there's just something so satisfying about doing it without help :)
After the Great Pumpkin Carving Afternoon, I headed over to the Morris-Butler House in Indy for their presentation of a progressive murder mystery "From Dark Pages". They host the mystery each year, but they change up the cast and the ending, so it's fresh each time. It was TONS of fun. Sadly I didn't get pictures, because I think it's distracting and rude to be pointing my camera at the actors (it's a VERY intimate group) even without a flash. If you ever find yourself in Indiana around Halloween, I HIGHLY recommend stopping in for "From Dark Pages". The mystery itself is fun, but what's even better is that the actors clearly have a fantastic time with their parts.
Happy Birdie is happy
