i think we need to be positive - not to repay hate with hate.
this is sad. deplorable. unfortunate.
but this is an opportunity to correct ignorance, intolerance and bigotry - people here are not going to be able to ignore it or pretend it doesn't exist.
personally, i'd rather have those responsible stay at wells and have their thinking corrected, rather than be driven out, bitterly spreading hate where hate is still acceptable.
to that end - we want a safe space, for everyone. we need to be the difference we want to see in the world - and i believe that does not include a 'witch hunt' or a hateful, vengeful atmosphere. the people who came to wells came here for a reason - they have a love for it too, it is their campus also. as a community we need to help each other learn and grow and become positive, constructive influences on the world.
by all means- pull together, let this strengthen our community, and make sure that it is in the spirit of love, and of understanding. we are a place, a safe space still, i believe, and we can survive this because we KNOW what is right (look at the hundreds of support emails we got in the past 12 hours) - there is no questioning ourselves or our beliefs. we can meet this challenge and overcome it, hopefully with a strength of purpose we didn't have before.
we love our fellow wellsians, and this is the time to show it.
