Cast Points, or CP for short, are the currency of Deadman Wonderland. 1 CP is directly equivalent to 1 Japanese yen (about 1.25 US cents, 0.76 British pence, or 0.86 euro cents). Every inmate is given a swipe card that holds their balance of CP; the card has a security number that, theoretically, only its owner should know.
CP are not strictly required to get by in DW, but they make life a little more pleasant. Without CP, the only food available is bland oatmeal-like slop, the only clothing available is a functional but drab jumpsuit, and life is generally pretty boring. Every inmate starts out with 10,000 CP, and can earn more through participating in events and taking menial jobs around the prison.
Earning CP
Inmates will likely earn most of their CP through participating in events; the CP prize of every event will be listed at event signup.
Inmates can also take jobs around the prison to earn CP. All jobs available are menial tasks like janitorial duty, dishwashing, cleaning up the courtyard, laundry, and working in prison facilities such as the cafeteria, library, and gift shop. All jobs pay 10,000 CP per day, but bonuses may be given to inmates who do particularly well.
Schooling is available in the library for inmates under the age of 18. A stipend of 500CP per school day is given to any student who attends.
Transferring CP
If an inmate so wishes, they may transfer some of their CP to another inmate. This requires the use of cheques that can be obtained, free of charge, in the gift shop; the inmate writing the cheque (the drawer) must fill the cheque out with the name of the recipient, the amount to be transferred, and optionally the reason for the transfer, and then sign the cheque. The recipient may then cash the cheque in the gift shop, and the amount of CP will be transferred from the drawer's account to the recipient's.
If a cheque bounces (that is, the drawer does not have enough CP to cover the cheque), then no money will be transferred, and the drawer will be fined 50% of the amount that was to be transferred. (Please note that it is entirely possible to fall into negative CP amounts.) If someone forges a cheque in another inmate's name, the forger will be fined 100% of the amount of the cheque.
The DW Shop
Candy
Candy costs 100,000 CP per piece, and should be the top priority of any inmate. (See
the ic rulebook.)
Living spaces
Inmates can use CP to move into the D, E, or F blocks, which have nicer, more comfortable dorms than the standard A, B, and C blocks. D block is gender-segregated, with one gender per floor, while the E and F blocks are unisex. (See
setting.)
Each
room in both D and E block is set up for two people, and costs 100,000 CP per person per month. (One of the roommates may choose to pay the other's rent if they would like.) F block's rooms are private, single-person rooms and vary by quality; the lowest-quality rooms cost 100,000 CP per month, while the highest-quality rooms cost 5,000,000 CP per month.
Inmates can also spend a lesser amount of money to rent a private room on F block's first floor for whatever purpose they might have. These rooms cost 7000 CP per night.
Food
Between the cafeteria, gift shop, and vendors in the courtyards, almost any kind of food can be purchased in DW, and that which can't can be special-ordered. Food can be taken to the common room, courtyards, and cells to be eaten. A small amount of most types of food costs between 200 and 500 CP, but a lobster or caviar dinner, for example, would cost closer to 3000 or 4000 CP. Since the exchange rate between CP and yen is fixed at 1:1, feel free to assume whatever price is reasonable for whatever your character is purchasing.
Alcohol is also available, but may only be drunk in individual cells and in the lounge.
Drugs
Alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and over-the-counter drugs may be purchased from the DW store for various amounts, comparable to their real-world prices. Prescription drugs for which an inmate has a prescription will be dispensed for free.
Clothes
Clothing and makeup is available in the DW gift shop, and can also be special-ordered. Any sort of clothing can be purchased, including bathing suits, lingerie, business suits, and school uniforms. Since the exchange rate between CP and yen is fixed at 1:1, feel free to assume whatever price is reasonable for whatever your character is purchasing.
Network devices
Cell phones that can be used to make calls and send text messages, but only within DW. These cost 5000 CP; the standard version displays text and images, but a Braille version is also available for the same price. They can also be used to access the prison-wide intranet. Without a network device, the only means of accessing the intranet are the computers in the computer lab, which each inmate can only use for 10 minutes each day. (See
journals.)
Pets
Only small, non-dangerous animals are allowed: Munchkin cats, rabbits, lizards, tarantulas, fish, rodents, etc. Prior to purchasing a pet, the inmate must already have purchased a cage/carrier, food, and so forth. All pets are immunized and neutered. The price of a pet varies between 5000 and 10,000 CP.
Contacting home
You have to pay to be allowed to contact your friends and family. A fee of 100 CP can be spent for each letter sent and received; alternatively, for 100 CP per minute, you can make phone calls.
Items from home
Is there something at home, or something that was confiscated from you when you were arrested, that you would like to have in DW? Clothing, a favorite stuffed animal, a family heirloom? That can be arranged! For the first item you have imported, it will cost you 50% of the value of the item -- a steal for cheap items such as clothing. After that, the price will go up by 10% for each additional item, so the fifth item you import from home would cost 100% its value, the tenth would cost 150% its value, and so forth.
Any item that isn't dangerous or illegal can be imported, so no firearms or bombs or anything like that. In addition, people and animals cannot be imported, nor can something that is impossible to move (a garden, a room, etc.). Electronic devices may be imported. Cell phones will be able to make voice calls and send text messages to inmates who have network devices; smartphones and laptops will be able to connect to
dwjournalnet.
What constitutes "an item" basically depends on how the request is worded. If an inmate requests "a shirt, pants, and shoes", that would count as three items, while "an outfit consisting of this shirt, these pants, and these shoes" would count as one. If multiple items are requested at the same time, for the purpose of determining their price, the less expensive items are counted first; so, for example, an inmate requesting a $1000 pearl necklace, a $3 box of Moon Pies, and a $50 cell phone would have to spend $731.50 (58601 CP, rounded up since there are no fractional amounts of CP).
Reduced sentence
The price and amount of reduction varies depending on the severity of your crime, but in general, all sentence reductions cost upwards of 100,000,000 CP. You'd better start saving now~!
