cold

In the DC area it is cold in winter, but not(usually) crazy cold. These past couple of days have gone to crazy cold. At least, to me. I wonder what my attended-a-Minnesota-college brother and his Russian gf think.?

I had 3 hrs between the end of class and my (early) birthday dinner with Clove at Firefly, yesterday, so had time to kill. I had originally thought I might walk to Georgetown and the Paper Source, but 5 blocks of walking btw. my classroom and office changed that plan! I came in, with drastically cooled coffee, and looked up the weather- it said "16, feels like 9" and I was like, "Ah ha!" And a bit worried about being out after the sun set.
After doing some submission work I went to the Renwick and the Indian Gallery, it was an amazing exhibit.

Firefly was yummy, as usual. We've been frugal, lately, so it was nice to be out and feel fancy. I had planned to order a fish dish, but the vegetarian option was a pumpkin and porcini dish with rice and cheese. It was wonderful, the mico-green salad had parsnip chips. Yum. They brought dessert(gratis) before we saw the dessert menu, I thought it was ice cream, but it turned out to be this very intense apple cider clove sorbet. It was good, but strong(for me) Clove(not surprisingly, it is the reason he got the name, afterall) was in high heaven.

We'd been invited to watch the season premiere of BSG at a neighbors, so after warming up at our place for an hour, we drove to their house, and watched on their ridiculously large HD tv. Perfect for watching a premiere. They have speakers set up for surround sound, and we heard all these things I've never heard on BSG, like the airy sound of being on the ship, etc.

The energy in DC is excited and exciting, people are cheerful, many tourists are already on the trains. I look forward to the inaugural day, and all of the (hoped for) changes.
