The
Mets are tied for third place in the NL East and Pope John Paul II's official morning period is over. Yes, that is all the news that's managed to penetrate my consciousness. I guess if someone wanted to analyze that, it says something meaningful about me, but I don't ever analyze myself that closely.
My mind is taken up with the plumbing work which still isn't finished and the Sewerage and Water Board (S&WB) people who've decided to take a great interest in the plumbing work and whether or not we have all the correct permits to do the work. That leads into a very convoluted story about the S&WB and how they found out we were doing work without a permit (I think one of the neighbors ratted on us) and how once they get involved, you can't just do the little bit of work you'd plan on, but now have to fix all the plumbing in the house and bring it all up to code whether you have the money for that or not.
Now we're going to have to take out a home equity line of credit in order to get the work done. This might turn out to our advantage though, since we're going to get all the work that needs to be done completed. The plumbing, electrical upgrade, central air and heat installation, new flooring in the den, and house painting will be done at once instead of in little bits over the next year. Beside that, the S&WB comes and inspects the plumbing work and forces the plumber to do it right. The last 2 times we had work done, the plumbers were less than stellar (and that's being overly kind). Still, I wasn't really keen doing all the work during the busy season at work. I don't seem to get a vote though. If the work on the plumbing isn't done, the S&WB can remove your water meter and living in a house with no running water is not in my travel plans.
On a completely different note, it's a sin to bet on the election of a pope and if you do, you risk ex-communication (not that that would stop me), so instead,
Chorus,
Jo,
JM, and
us are having a little poll about the election. We're trying to guess when the Cardinals will choose a pope (I guessed Friday morning vote), who it will be (I'm going with Cardinal Carlo Maria Martini of Italy), and what name he will choose (I'm torn between Benedict and Boniface - I have no clue why). Anyone have a guess?
