So hard to find a good med

I have bipolar type 2 and just need to have a bit of a rant. At the moment I am off meds, waiting to start a new lot and hoping that this will be the one that works. I have tried so many and they have all had side affects that make life even more difficult to cope with.

So I'm wondering what meds work for you? I am kind of interested to see how ( Read more... )

I felt called to comment on your post as it sounds so much like my experience. First off I was a guinea pig for at least 4 of the 6 years I was on medications for Bipolar II. I can't even remember all of the concoctions that were tried on me. The last 2 years I was taking anti depressants and anti anxiety along with pills for side effects of each. I was tired of the whole thing after that and talking my pdoc into weaning me off. I wanted to have a child and I was tired of being overweight from all of the meds.

It was a long hard process not being medicated and learning to have a healthy lifestyle instead in order to manage my bipolar mood swings. It has taken a lot of research to figure it all out. Sometimes I wished for the easy fix of popping pills and just being numb. Very glad I didn't not quit and go back to that though.

I have recently found out that the reason I had such a hard time with the meds was because I am a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). Google it and find a self test on the internet to see if maybe you are as well. If so, there is a book out that would probably help you with your bipolar symptoms too. It is called the Highly Sensitive Person's Survival Guide by Ted Zeff PhD.
I hope you find this helpful. Take care, K

I agree with this partially. I dieted and exercised for years and did yoga inparticularly to help with my mood swings. However, I still had mood swings and depression, they were just not as severe.

So for me I need a little of both. I think that's important not to rely on only one or the other, unless it really works that well for you. :)
