I have a question.First it should be understood that between the therapist I was seeing at an Indian Health Center, and my Psychiatrist of numerous years there is a difference of diagnosis on my BP. One says Type II, the Psychiatrist Type I ( Read more... )

first off, i've spent /most/ of my life as an unmediated bipolar; with that said, it isn't the easiest thing to do, and since its not something you've done often, i wouldn't suggest diving right in ( ... )

First off after reading your post, thinking about my answers and reassessing going of any of my meds at this present time would be bad ( ... )

Geez looking at your list of meds, yeah I'd say you sound way overmedicated. Maybe, anyway (I'm not a doc and I don't know all the details ever of your symptoms). It's no wonder at least that you are having memory issues!! Once I hit 250 on Lamictal my word recall & short term memory took a major dive, and they were already somewhat impaired before that. You're on twice the standard dose!! Perhaps once things around you settle then you could look at reducing some doses, but definitely it doesn't sound like a good time to quit anything ( ... )

Yeah I have been on that much Trileptal since like 2004 if I remember right. Maybe 2006 somewhere in there.

I agree with the med overhaul, especially if I have to start using Indian Health.

I definitely get Mania, at least Hypomania. It's really hard to control my moods, but she definitely does not want to up any more. We may try Lithium at some point if one of these stops working.

No I understood what you meant, my brain is always all over the place especially in the fall.

I agree on the med overhaul. I gotta talk to her. *nods*

Yeah I agree life needs to just settle, I want to get settled i and stuff. I think that will help a TON, then I can go from there. *nods*

i didn't want to discourage you, but that's a lot of medication, especially the seroquel.. if you're already struggling, then i wouldn't suggest to just drop all your meds. it would be possible to wean down, but you need to work at staying under control without them.

most mood stabilizers and bipolar medication in a way shorten the possible range of emotions that you might feel. which means that while you get stressed and sad and angry now, it's likely you'll get A LOT MORE stressed, sad, angry and happy too.

i'm happy to keep in touch and continue discussing this and other things~ such as maintaining control without medication.

lol thanks, icon collecting is one of my fav parts about LJ..

i'm glad, you should certainly work with your therapist and psychiatrist to develop the coping skills you would need, it'll help you keep control even with your meds also; as well as lay the ground work for you to slowly remove the medications and gain the willpower and control to do so.
