Zyprexa

Having given seroquel a fair trial, and having it not work too well, my doctor decided to put me on Zyprexa in addition to the Zoloft I'm on. Since I have traits of borderline personality disorder on top of having either bipolar II or bipolar NOS, his logic was that since seroquel controlled my borderline traits, I probably need to be on an anti-psychotic, and if it can stabilize my mood as well, that saves me from having to be on another drug. Seroquel, while not preventing depression or hypomania, made me less reactive and helped with the black-and-white thinking I tend to get.

I'm pretty optimistic about Zyprexa, but, honestly, scared of the weight gain. I've stocked up on Crystal Light, so I think I'll drink a glass of that when I want a snack. I'm also going to get back into swimming.

So, who here has been on Zyprexa? Is it overkill for bipolar that's not bipolar I? (Whether I have bipolar II or bipolar NOS is still up in the air, but my doctor has settled on me having some kind of bipolar instead of pure borderline. I'm closer to a diagnosis, yay!) What was it like for you?

I'm taking my first dose tonight. Going up to 5 mg in a couple days.

bipolar type ii, med switch, zyprexa, borderline personality disorder
