Meds question

Hi guys! Long time, no see! :)

After a short hospital stay, I was put on Abilify to manage my mania and mixed episodes. Sadly (or not so sadly, I felt like my IQ dropped 5 points while I was on Abilify) I had to stop it since I am prone to TIAs, which, you guessed it, are sometimes side effects of Abilify.

SO! Right now I am on Buspar and Xanax (low doses) to handle my anxiety (which was also made worse by the Abilify) and my pDoc and I are looking for a good mood stabilizer for me. He wants me to research it for my own sake while he thinks on one we can agree on. (My pDoc is really awesome so far.) So, I thought I would ask you guys for advice.

Some medical background, I have a chronic UTI and sensitive kidneys, so we're avoiding Lithium for now. I have a family history of diabetes so we're also avoiding Xyprexa. I have a mild heart murmur and as you see, a propensity to TIAs. Knowing all of that (and knowing you all are not doctors and so all of this is being taken with a pound of salt :) ) could you suggest a medicine?

I am thinking anticonvulsants, not Depakote since it causes ovarian polyps and I want to have babies in the near future. But I saw one of you mentioned Tripetal, or something, and I wonder about that one.

Anyway, rest assured, I will take all advice as advice and not gospel word and I will not demand of my doc the meds you suggest. :) BUT, I WILL be very happy to get your opinions and your experiences, for my own sake and knowledge.

Thank you!
