So it's been awhile! As I've been home from work the last two days trying not to vomit, I'll do what I've been meaning to and update y'all who aren't on FaceBook with me (by the way, if you want to friend me, let me know).
Let's see....
-Hockey came and went, didn't it? I was okay with how things turned out. Honestly, as long as it was any team but Pittsburgh, I was good, and so I got my wish. In addition, got to see poor little Sidney cry and dribble snot out of his nose like a toddler who had his favorite toy taken away. Aw.
-Job is continuing, my current position goes until the end of next July. My boss sent me a new job opening that's grant funded for 3 years and something I could totally do. It would look great on a resume. However, if I did get it, it would end up paying me between $12,000 and $7,000 LESS than I currently make. And it's STILL only a 3-year position. That's not good for someone looking to buy a house and start a family. I don't know, we'll see.
-I'm still trying to wrap up the contract work I was supposed to have finished two weeks ago. It helps when your employer is your mom who more than likely won't sue you for breach of contract, but still - I should get on that instead of playing Legend of Zelda, which is what will probably end up happening today. My only excuse is that my stomach is trying very hard to gain freedom from my body. This is also my excuse for not doing laundry, either.
-Over the 4th of July weekend Dan and I went camping, on a lake, in an actual tent. It was a lot of fun, the weather was perfect, and it didn't get too buggy until the last night we were there. Dan borrowed his Dad's speedboat and we took a tour of the lake, before dropping anchor to swim and fish. We spent the nights sitting by the campfire, watching the stars come out, making s'mores and talking, and then trying to have sex quietly as there were old people 20 feet to each side of us. There are worse ways to spend a weekend.
However, I definitely preferred having a real shower. And the sunburn I got is now a lovely tan, but hurt right at first.
-Before the trip, Dan and I had a pretty significant fight.
I haven't been that angry in a long, long time (read: I smashed the blender). To make a long story short, and because I don't want to get into the details, I caught him lying to me about something. It wasn't even really that important, but as he went into the reasons for why he concealed something from me, I understood why he did. It doesn't mean it didn't hurt, though, and I'm still getting over it.
Although I'm not saying what it was about, I DO want everyone to know that it wasn't something truly serious, or a relationship deal-breaker (no cheating, no drugs, no criminal record, anything like that). It was mostly just the fact that he'd felt the need to lie to me about something yet several of his friends already knew, and were actively aiding and abetting. I'm a pretty jealous person, and he had an active, hmm, "internet life" before he met me, so over the course of our relationship I've been more than a little concerned that that would still be going on behind my back. It wasn't, exactly, but it WAS related to what he'd been hiding.
I'm sorry for being vague. I promised to protect his privacy, and you'll just have to trust me that there's a good reason behind it.
-I need the Life Fairy to come along and wave her wand and make some things happen for me. No? That selfish bitch.
-Wedding planning is moving along. We paid our downpayment for the ceremony and reception locations, and are working on getting someone to perform the wedding. The next big things to do are the caterer and the honeymoon. If anyone in the southeastern Michigan area knows of a good caterer who isn't too expensive and provides the flatware, please let me know!
That's about all that's going on in my life at the moment - working, paying bills, having fun with my fiance and my friends when I can, planning a wedding, trying to save up for some bigger things in life.
I should start playing the lottery. As Wanda Sykes put it, when people ask me about my retirement plan - "Powerball! Sometimes I diversify with the scratch-offs, but mostly Powerball."
