Danny held her soft hands and admired their pale perfection. The nails were clear and shiny with such a different luster than Dan’s own, and he kissed the tips of each one until her cheeks blushed a rosy red.
He loved her open, smiling face, loved the way her eyes crinkled into softly curved crescents and the dimples on her cheeks. He’d never heard her talk or laugh before, but he imagined the sound was like the chords of a piano, tinkling and melodious.
She took Dan’s hands, her back to the sun, and opened her mouth to speak.
Dan woke up as Casey’s voice asked sweetly for a kiss.
