Wednesday, I took a half day at school, so I could go to a doctor's
appointment. No big deal (later posting on that), but the adventure came
when Mom and I went to Wal-Mart on our way back home. The plan, it seemed,
was straight forward--drop off the prescription, get milk and assorted other
essentials, pick up med's, head home! The problem, the pharmacy doesn't
read or listen!
My doctor wanted me to get name brand medicine, and warned the
generic wouldn't have quite the quality control I needed. No big deal--my
insurance is good, and I'd rather get the best quality on this than not. I
asked if they had the brand, as I'd been warned to do that, too. "Yes,
that's no problem," was my answer. After making sure to say I didn't want
generic, knowing it was written on the prescription by the doctor, and
feeling fairly reassured, we went on our way. When I collected my
prescription, I was a little surprised when they told me they didn't try my
insurance because of their $4.00 program, and the total for a 90 day supply
was only $10. That was quite a lot less than I was expecting, so I happily
surrendered my credit card for the transaction, got card and medicine, and
headed for the line at the check out. Mom took the medicine to look over
the instructions, and noticed that I had been given the generic!
At 6:30, We were back at the pharmacy, and we were explaining the problem.
The pharmacist tried to say he sub'ed the medicine because he only had "a
few" of the brand name. It was really hard to convince this guy that I
really meant what I said, and knew what I was talking about--then, it took
45 minutes for them to count 87 of the 90 pills, discover my insurance would
only pay for a 30-day supply, recount 30 pills, and figure out how to make a
$2.87 charge on my card to cover the difference in price, and finally give
me the new medication! I really don't want to go back there again, and
recommend my friends in Montgomery don't use the Wal-Mart on Southern BLVD!
On to more exciting news: there are only 10 days until Christmas
break! All right! I'm trying a new project with my students. We are going
to award up to 100 bonus points for them based on their answers to review
questions for "Who wants 100 bonus points" loosely based on "Who wants to be
a millionaire?" I'm thinking if nothing else, it will get them studying a
little.
