Book signing

Feb 10, 2008 17:53

I came home yesterday and have been staying at Mom and Dad's this
weekend. I was asked to consult on a book last spring. It is written by
James Weaver and is called "Before Winter" Mr. Weaver self-published the
book, and he had a book signing today at the Brewton Library. It was such a
pretty day that I thought people migt come. His articles and press releases
didn't make it in the papers, though. I was pretty sad because I think all
total, only 4 o 5 people came to the book signing. We all had a good time
sitting around and talking, but I can only imagine how disappointed he must
have felt.
I must comment, though, on how well the Kitty behaved. One of the
Library workers, after seeing the Kitty, ran home and got her camera. I was
proud of myself for holding it together here and not really doing something
crazy. She came back with her camera, and proceeded to get on the floor to
get pictures of Kitty who was quietly lying under a table. This lady was
litterally almost lying on the floor to get the picture. It was so tempting
to throw my leg across the dog's face, or jump down infront of her, so I
would be in the picture, too. Some times, I'd love to pull out a photo
album that shows nothing but differennt people's eyes...just to show them
how ridiclulous that sort of thing can be. The worst part of the whole
thing was that she didn't even ask me if it was OK to take the pictures. I
probably would have consented...up to the point where she acted like just
because she did German Shepherd rescue, that gave her the right to talk to
my dog, even after I'd asked her not to talk to her. Sometimes, I wish I
was bold enough to grab somebody and start feeling all over their face and
then talk to their glasses or something. I'm not that bold, and I couldn't
ever imagine doing that to somebody--but if I ever right a movie script, I
think I'll put in a blind character who uses a cane-- and have the general
public always talking to the cane, grabbing the cane, and all that!
Mom and I went to Wal-Mart after the book signing. Kitty handled
all of that like a Pro, and she didn't pay too much attention to the former
classmate I saw...although she was interested in her daughter. A little
correction took care of that, though.
I've now lost speech, so for those interested in "Before Winter", I
hope this takes It is about a blind lady who has a 10-year-old daughter.
The daughter wants her Mom to find a husband to rescue her mother from the
horrible situation they are in after her father was killed in a work related
accident. It's a good book, and I can get you more info if you're
interested in getting a copy.
