Church, Wal-Mart, and Oasis

Jul 23, 2007 01:03

Becky and Chris picked me up for church this morning.
Becky's exclamation on seeing Oasis was "Wow, a Big Dog"! Everybody was
excited to see me at church, and I think most everybody loved Oasis. One of
the guys tried to convince me that she is a Beagle, and of course, my brain
went on the freeze, and I couldn't think fast enough to tell him to grab a
pen and paper, so I could give him the Seeing Eye's number--since he
obviously needed a similar dog. It's all good, though.
I decided not to sing in choir this morning, as I still haven't
fully decided if I want to sit in my usual place, or on the front row--where
I know the Fuzz Ball will have more space. As much as I hate the front row,
and even though I know that will separate me from Louise, I may try it the
first couple of times and see how it goes.
Brother Ronnie's sermon today was on Godliness, and it was really
nice. After last week's experiences in Morristown, it was just nice and
refreshing to be back in my own church. Truly, my heart still aches for the
Orchestra and for Ridgecrest, but worship at Antioch East was great this
morning.
I got to hang out with Rachel, Liz, and Will while we waited for Mr.
Sam to finish counting money before going home. Will and Rachel asked a lot
of questions about Oasis, and the training at Seeing Eye. I hope that I was
able to answer all of them--and not sound mechanical. It's sometimes hard
to answer the simple training questions and not sound like I'm rattling off
biological factoids, mother's maiden name, etc.
When I got home, I played around with Oasis a little, and then, we
had a nice thunder storm. It was more of a rain maker, and I stretched out
across my bed, falling asleep. I called Rachel around 3:45, to see if she
was going back to church, but she wasn't. Becky had said she would come get
me, but I thought it was way out of her way to do that. She and Chris had
stayed in Greenville.
I spoke to Casey and Lori on skype, and we were having a lot of fun
conversing with each other, when my teacher friend, Lori, called. We had
made plans to go to the grocery store after our workshop tomorrow, but she
wanted to go tonight. We did, and Oasis has only one problem in Wal-Mart.
I'm actually not sure if it's her problem or mine. If Lori stopped the cart
kind of slowly, Oasis would keep going until I hit it. I know, I should
have reworked the situation, but I couldn't figure out how to set it back up
without making it obvious to her that it was a rework, or a set-up.
I must say, on a totally different note, I was amazed with Oasis in
McDonalds. We went there before the Super Wally World Run. Oasis dove
under the table, and got in an under position almost as quickly as I slid
into the booth. She found my shoe with her head, and that was her position
until we left. It was so different than with Rox.
The other nice thing about Oasis is that in the car, she lies
down...usually without a fuss, and she does not sniff the air conditioner
vents! That's such a nice change, but part of me kind of misses it, too. I
guess that's one of those little nagging reminder type things.
Oasis also keeps her head in contact with my shoes in the car. She
curled herself tonight so that she could touch my shoe with her head--making
her body into almost a Capital C with the curved part being her back,
resting against the seat edge of the car. It's so cute and endearing!
