Exciting occurrences in the life of dog guide training!
Tonight was a great night. Ace and I did great with our routes
today, and we had 2 natural traffic checks this afternoon. I was relieved,
because I wasn't really expecting the second one, and she came to a stop at
the same time I noticed the car, and the instructor was saying "You're
getting a traffic check".
On the morning route, we had one natural check, and a check with a
hybrid car from the Seeing Eye. I want a hybrid because of how good the gas
mileage is, but I do wonder how insulated it is...it sounded like a bicycle
going on the road--just not quite as high as a hum, and a little heavier. I
know, that's not a great description, but if the engine isn't running, it's
not bad at all as far as sound goes--unless you are not using a dog guide,
in my opinion. I just think it'd be on you before you realized what it was,
using a cane...but that's just me.
anyway, back to tonight, we sat around in the common lounge drinking
milkshakes, and hanging out. A group of us started playing spades and
having a lot of fun, then, we decided to call it a night.. I wanted to say
something to the night instructor, so I slipped into the elevator room,
where I knew she was. We were talking, and I had dropped down on the floor
to pet Oasis, when she rolled over and presented me with her tummy for the
first time! I think she might actually be liking me! She also let me groom
her tail today--and that's what I spent most of our grooming session working
on today. I think I just might be getting close to having her in pretty
condition.
