It's Saturday, and I realize yet again, I didn't write much in my journal this week.
Last weekend, I talked to Amanda, and we put our plan in motion. I'm not ready to make it all public, yet, and by writing it like this, some of you will keep reading in the hopes that I'll eventually talk about the plan. I will, but I don't know when.
Tuesday, after school, I went home with Becky, so we could attend the County Commission's public hearing on the tax issue. Butler County Board of Education has asked the commission to raise a 1/2 cents sales tax to try to get enough money to build a new school in Georgiana and to fix existing buildings. I think they also are planning to build a fieldhouse at Greenville High, and a Cafetorium (sp?) at one of the schools in Greenville. I was amazed at two things: First, nobody asked what a cafetorium was, and secondly, nobody spoke against the tax increase. The commission is supposed to make a ruling on Mar. 12.
There was a terrible storm that hit the state of Alabama on Thursday. Enterprise High School was hit very hard, and they have been showing pictures all over the news. We didn't take a direct hit, but all I could think about Thurs. night while i was watching the news coverage was "That could have been my school!".
We had a tornado warning Thurs. ourselves, and stayed in the halls for about 30 minutes. I know that school officials in Enterprise are going to come under fire because they hadn't dismissed school, but I don't think there's really a right answer to that question. I actually felt a little safer at school, but I think that's because I knew I had to keep focused, and teaching kept my mind off the weather. All I could think of on Friday was how hard it would be to deal with all the chaos and fall out from such a tragedy. Like I mentioned to Mom on the phone, that's something they never teach you how to handle in the college prep classes.
Marie came by last night, and I took her out for supper. Well, actually, she picked me up and we went to Kendall's Barbecue for take out. We came back here and ate. We hung out for a while, then she went on home so Mom could help her with taxes.
I was supposed to take the Praxis today, but they need more proof that I'm really dependent on Braille. I really wonder what some of these people are thinking--who in their right mind would request a Brailled test unless they needed it? Now, we wonder what's wrong with education...I think it's that they forgot to include the class on Common Sense in first/second grade!
I spent the day preparing a grocery list and trying to cook something. I have chicken defrosting right now, and have pork that I plan to put in the crockpot in the morning so lunch will be ready when I get home from church.
Hope that all of you have a great weekend, and remember to Thank God for all His Blessings!
