Ok, moderately angry now I must admit.
Now, if I were to run a table top game of another game being run in the same city. Would people have a serious objection to it? I would hope not.
How many vampire games are currently being run in the city right now? A dozen? At least. Yeah, some interfere with the others, etc. Still, for the most part people go back and forth from one to the other without many hard feelings.
Now, I love the 7th Sea genre more than most any other game, save one. A friend of mine was saying it would be fun to run another LARP of it. Now the only thing these two would really have in common would be that they take place in the same city. Rules would likely be a bit different, darker theme, etc. Basically another opportunity for those of us who enjoy the game to play it, or help others to enjoy playing it.
Now, I have no idea what has been said by who... but those are my sole reasons behind helping this new game get off the ground. I enjoy the current game a great deal, and want there to be more opportunities for the genre. I have some fun story ideas bouncing around in this empty melon and have offered them up to whoever wants them. The only interest I got was from the 'new' group.
Apparently something else is getting around and it is really pissing me off. Why is it that gaming groups seem to attract petty, selfish backstabbers who live for attacking others and making life generally crappy for everyone? I was a member of another gaming group where one slip up, and all the same crap went down. I left that group gladly and have never gone back.
I don't know, maybe I have reached the stage where I am too old for role playing games anymore. I don't have the patience for dealing with bullsh*t like I used to. I don't enjoy people attacking others before bothering to find out what all is going on. I go to games to have fun, with friends. The minute the fun ends or the friends turn out to not be friends. I am done.
Me, I am not accusing anyone of anything. I think people are over-reacting to some deep seated issue that I am clueless towards. Personally, if I thought that people would not be thrilled with the prospect of having a second game to go to, I would have never started thinking up story for it. If I had the slightest thought in my head that people would not only blow up, but accuse me and others of trying to tear apart the existing game, I would have actually laughed as I would have found it preposterous. Apparently it is not funny.
Right now, I have a headache from all this...
