I started working on my Brandeis application, and I realized that I'd really, really like to go there. I wasn't sure, but as I was going through the faculty pages (hunting for thesis advisors), I discovered that they are doing a lot of research that I would love to be a part of. The problem is, Geoff really doesn't want to go to Boston... he's not sure he could find a job he'd love there. :-( I have a list of faculty from each school that I'd like to work with, but none of them are nearly as exciting as these women at Brandeis. (Another bonus, all girls! :-D )
-Brandeis
-Lizbeth Hedstrom: Enzymology and protein engineering ***
-Dorothee Kern: Structure, dynamics and function of enzymes
-Carolyn Cohen: Protein structure, dynamics, and assembly
-UC Santa Cruz
-Roberto Bogomolni: Retinal Proteins, Photosensory Transduction, Membrane Bioenergetics, Photochemistry, Laser Flash Photolysis
-Roger Linington: Marine Natural Products, Drugs for Neglected Diseases, Chemical Biology, Chemical Probes ***
-Seth Rubin: Biochemistry and biophysical chemistry; molecular mechanisms of cell cycle regulation, nuclear magnetic resonance, x-ray crystallography
-Thomas Schleich: Biomedical Magnetic Resonance, In Vivo Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Imaging
-UT Austin
-Karen Browning: Eukaryotic protein synthesis
-David Graham: Biosynthetic pathways
-Adrian Kintage-Clay: Natural Product biochemistry
-Jon Robertus: Protein engineering and drug design ***
There's no one at Syracuse that I'm particularly interested in, and George is the person I'd want to work with at RPI. The stars (***) indicate the people I'm the most interested in at that particular institution. *sigh* This is going to be a hard decision. Hopefully Geoff and I will be able to compromise and find the best path for us.
grad school,
science!
