There's a debate on whether McCain was racist when he told a black guy that he'd probably never heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac before this crisis.
If his running mate had never heard of them, why should McCain expect any body else to have?
Seriously though, McCain wasn't racist. He was just pointing out that most folks were completly unaware of this institutions before they started to melt down.
